About Christina

Hi! I'm a college professor at Augusta University with a Ph. D. in English, and I'd love to help you or your child read and write this summer. I am passionate about helping kids develop strong reading and writing skills because I see the difference it makes for their future success. Reading helps students succeed in school and it opens up worlds of fun, creativity, and curiosity.

Over the past nine years, I have taught 17 sections of college composition, first at the University of Connecticut as a graduate student and now at Augusta University as a professor. At Augusta, I teach courses ranging from Composition I and II to American Literature to Time Travel Literature. I intentionally incorporate one-on-one interactions into my classes, requiring composition students to meet with me outside of class to discuss revisions to their essay drafts. I give written feedback on each draft that applies the general writing principles we discuss in class to each student. I also spent three years as an academic advisor at Biola University in La Mirada, California, where I met individually with undeclared students to discuss academic plans and possible majors. Each of these experiences has reinforced the necessity of tailoring my expectations and lesson plans to every person's unique interests, values, and skills.

In addition to working with college students, I have experience working with learners of all ages. In Connecticut I volunteered with fourth & fifth graders through the America Reads program. I also tutored first-generation college students in Connecticut. More recently, as a member of the Augusta Junior League, I have spent the past year volunteering at our local Ronald McDonald House.

I'd love to work with you so feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thanks!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
