A lifelong love of learning has assisted me in developing a love of teaching. I actually began my tutoring career early in my life when my teachers began to request that I assist my classmates with assignments and projects. I am a certified K-12 paraprofessional in the Richmond County Public School System. I am also a Volunteer Adult Literacy Educator. I hold certifications in health coaching and holistic life coaching, and my greatest joy in life is being in a position to help others achieve success.
I specialize in the Language Arts subjects of English, Grammar, Literature, Reading, Vocabulary, and Writing. Language Arts is my first love and favorite to teach. I am also proficient in the scientific areas of Anatomy and Psychology and I love to teach these as well.
My goal for each session is to make learning fun, yet challenging. I believe that students are benefited greatly from being held accountable for their own success, so I have developed a form of collaborative curriculum and teaching aides. True learning happens, not simply when a student is given new information but when they are given the opportunity to process, and test that information to form their own ideas about what the information means in relation to their own life experiences. To that end, I function as not simply a tutor, but also as a facilitator of self discovery and critical/creative thinking processes that serve to assist students in modifying lessons and transferring then to real life situations.
I assign home work after each lesson. I use periodic pop quizzes to assess student strengths and areas of opportunity. This helps me to understand and make adjustment in my teaching style and lesson plans in order to fully utilize each student's individual learning style. I make lessons fun by providing occasional interactive projects related to the lesson. As I believe that there is a motivating force in seeing results, I provide regular detailed progress reports.
I work from my own private tutoring office, located in South Augusta. But I am more than will to travel to locations that are more convenient for the student, within a 40 mile radius, if needed.
While I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy. I do understand that "time and unexpected occurrences befall us all" so I allow myself some flexibility and willingness to work with anyone that may have that need.
I take pride in the work I do, and always strive to excel. I often use questionnaires and surveys to obtain feedback. I welcome and consider the suggestion of both students and parents. And will work to gain and maintain complete customer satisfaction.
I look for the hearing from you, and am excited by the possibility of being instrumental in your success. A lifelong love of learning has assisted me in developing a love of teaching. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
