About Julianne

I'm a recent graduate of the good ol' Georgia Southern University, where I studied Theatre and earned a minor Psychology. In Theatre, my focus covered practically everything, with special attention to acting, costumes, hair and make-up. Immediately after graduation, I began a job all the way up on Long Island as a "Wardrobe Technician" (I sewed. A lot. And helped actors change costumes. But mainly sewed). That lasted from mid-May until September, when I asked to join the National tour of the Broadway Musical Review, "Smokey Joe's Cafe ft. The Coasters," as the Wardrobe Supervisor. This tour traveled the United Stated from October through mid-January. Both of these jobs made me a pro at hemming pants, taking in an letting out suit jackets, replacing buttons and snaps, and winding a sewing machine a lightning speed.

Way before college and the "real world," I did ballet. I did fourteen years of it to be exact, six years of pointe work included. I still retain much of the French. A few years into high school, a best friend of mine got me hooked on ballroom dancing. If you asked me my favorite, waltz, Argentine tango, salsa, and swing are at the top. My senior year, I got to choreograph two ballet pieces, and have even taught ballet classes to my fellow theatre students. If you are taking one style of dance, I highly recommend taking another genre. Taking ballroom helped me appreciate ballet so much more.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ballet

My mother put me in ballet classes at the age of 4 and I did not stop until I graduated high school at the age of 17, ten days before my 18th birthday. I had six years of pointe training. While in college, I taught ballet classes to my fellow theatre students to help them with body awareness, poise, and balance.

Sewing

While in college, I worked in our department's costume shop for three whole school years. After graduation, I worked as a wardrobe technician at a professional theatre up on Long Island, NY for five months. I was then asked to be the Wardrobe Supervisor for a National tour of a musical revue. After all of this, I have extensive knowledge of hand sewing and machine sewing.
