I'm Joshua. I graduated with a Doctorate degree in Biostatistics in 2013, with a Masters degree in Biostatistics in 2009, and with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science (I graduated summa cum laude) in 2007. I received the Outstanding Senior in Mathematics Award in 2007, the Outstanding Graduate Student Award in 2013, and received a Ph. D. with Distinction for my dissertation in 2013.

I tutored in the Math Lab during the Fall 2006, Spring 2007, and Summer 2007 semesters while I was attending Augusta State University (now Augusta University). While I was working in the Math Lab I provided tutoring services to students on an as needed basis for College Algebra, Precalculus, Elementary Statistics, and Calculus courses. My tutoring approach for the students that came to the Math Lab involved working out textbook problems with them on the whiteboard, answering any questions they asked me, and walking them through any graded exams they showed me to help them understand where they went wrong on their exam problems and what they needed to do differently to improve their competence with any course material they were struggling with.

I was a teaching assistant for Statistical Theory I, Statistical Theory II, Introduction To Epidemiology, and for Design and Analysis of Observational Studies while I was attending graduate school at Medical College of Georgia (now Augusta University). While I was a teaching assistant for these courses I answered any questions they had during class lectures and I tutored students that were enrolled in these courses one on one as needed during my office hours. My tutoring approach for these students was to answer any questions they asked of me, to work out problems with them to help improve their competence with the course material, and to provide them guidance on how to solve the homework problems correctly while still placing the responsibility of solving them on the students.

I taught at Georgia Regents University (now Augusta University) in the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 semesters. The courses I taught were Calculus and Analytical Geometry I, Elementary Statistics, and Precalculus. My teaching approach for these students during my class lectures was to work out textbook problems on the whiteboard, answer any questions they had, present summaries of the chapter contents as PowerPoint presentations, give in-class demonstrations on how to use their calculators to carry out some of the calculations required to solve homework problems and exam problems. I also posted the solutions for the homework assignments and exams and discussed any trends I noticed in my students' performance on the homework assignments and exams. My tutoring approach for these students during my office hours was to answer any questions they had and to provide them guidance on how to solve the homework problems correctly while still placing the responsibility of solving them on the students.

I want to help students become proficient with any subjects they are struggling to learn as much as possible so I am open to any resources or suggestions that students can provide that would be beneficial. I am easy to reach and will strive to respond to students' emails or text messages in a timely manner. If you ever need to cancel or reschedule a lesson please let me know ahead of time as soon as possible so I can adapt my schedule accordingly in a timely manner. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!

Great and patient teacher

Joshua really helped me throughout my problems by explaining things out for me. After telling him how the class is structured and how things were taught, he tried his best to explain things in a way that I can understand. I will be continue further working with him throughout my class. Thank you Joshua!

Kind, Patient and Intelligent Tutor

Joshua tutored me for my Statistics class. He was extremely helpful. He also taught me how to use my Scientific Calculator which I needed to be able to use to complete my statistics. I had some computer issues as well which he helped me figure them out so we were able to focus on the tutoring. I will be calling him again if I need any more help!

Efficient and patient tutor

Josh helped me with Pearson correlation and Wilcox matched pairs tests for a research abstract I was doing. He quickly absorbed what the purpose of my project was and seamlessly helped me to execute the statistics I needed. Would definitely recommend!

My session with Joshua

Joshua reviewed a lesson in BIOSTATS, this was my first session where we were able to connect through platform with audio and video. Although Joshua was great and very knowledgeable, I am an adult learner and not confident that this format will work for me. I plan to do some review on my own then try another session before making a final decision and I'll stick with Joshua for another session.

Great tutor!

Explained the material very concisely in a way I could understand with my minimal experience with R. Also the resources shared will help me in the future.

Great to find someone to help me with R-code! Not many people tutoring statistics knew about r-code. Thanks Joshua. I look forward to having more statistics tutor sessions with you.
