I have a bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management and a master's degree in Elementary Education. I am certified as a Elementary Education Teacher in Maryland and New York. I am in the process of getting certified in Georgia since I moved here recently. I have three years' experience working as a Director/Preschool Teacher. I was a substitute for a year in grades PreK, K, 1st, and 2nd grade. I know that each child learns in a different way so I tailor my lessons to the needs of the child. I believe that all children have the ability to be successful if they are taught with the correct methods by a caring and dedicated educator who is patient and knowledgeable. While attending college for my master's degree I was required to tutor a 2nd grade student in reading. I spoke with her mom who told me at parent teacher conference night the teachers noticed a great improvement in her reading in a short period of time and asked if a reading program was obtained. As a child I enjoyed teaching my friends in reading and math when at play. Years later I worked in a Veterinary as a receptionist and was asked to teach all new staff about the aspects of the job. Eventually I worked in various preschools as a teacher and realized teaching was my calling. I decided that obtaining a teaching degree was a goal that I needed to obtain and planned how I would make this happen. In 2008, I reached my goal of obtaining a teaching degree and later became a certified teacher. I am a person who sets goals for the lessons, creates a plan and after the lesson, I determine if I reached my goal and I determine ways to improve or adapt the lessons for next time.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
