About Barron

Hi there!

Let me tell you a bit about myself. I got my start tutoring with Kaplan teaching the MCAT in Athens. From there I moved to Atlanta and joined the Princeton Review and C2 Education teams, where I taught MCAT as well as SAT and ACT prep courses. What this means for you is that if you want a traditional experience, starting with an assessment, followed by a detailed plan, and subsequent periodic reassessments, I can deliver.

However, that type of rigid process is not for everyone. Since leaving Princeton Review for a Scoring Analytics position with Pearson Education, I have tutored privately, and while many students perform well following the traditional test-prep program, others fare better with a more flexible approach. This can be especially true for those students who need help in their subject courses at school. Whichever scenario best fits you, rest assured that I do not work via the assembly line method - in other words, I will remain flexible, adapting my approach to achieve the best result for you.

Finally, as important as subject and organizational mastery are to being an excellent tutor, for me, attitude is even more important. I think that demonstrating productivity, engagement, and positivity for students is a crucial part of my work. The ability to to reinvigorate a dragging student, or to energize the atmosphere near the end of a long day, is critical.

I am extremely passionate about teaching, partly due to the role tutors have played in my life, and also because the satisfaction I feel when helping students cannot be matched. I look forward to helping you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

The ACT English section is one of my specialties. During my time working with the Princeton Review I honed my grammar and syntax skills, and I continue to polish them to this day. Want to learn the technicalities involved with misplaced modifiers or subject verb prepositional splits? Just let me know!

Genetics

I majored in Biology in college, and due to my own interest in Genetics, I focused much of my upper level coursework in that field, taking advantage of the University's fantastic genetics dept.

An example of such focus would be the small group discussion/presentation Genetics forums, led, in my case, by the evolutionary aging researcher Dr. Daniel Promislow.

MCAT

I took the MCAT after completing the pre-med program in the honors program at the University of Georgia. I scored a 35 overall and made an "S" on the writing portion.

The breakdown of my score was:

12- Life Science Section (Organic Chemistry and Biology)
12- Physical Science Section (Chemistry and Physics)
11- Verbal
