About Scott

Bio

My father was an Aerospace Engineer and did not tolerate failure in math and science in school. To that end, my senior year in high school I took calculus and an introduction to Physics. I continued in those subjects my first two years of college before I switched my major to Management Information Systems. I have tutored friends and family for several years - mostly in math and often at no charge. In the last few years I have also been reviewing lessons from Khan Academy.

I have always loved math and physics. I enjoy brushing up on the more advanced topics. I have two sons in the 4th and 5th grade and last year I tutored a student in the 11 grade. I have a good idea of the math being taught - certainly at the 6th grade level and below. My method for tutoring is simple, find out where the student's knowledge is - and go from there. Math can be very exciting once you understand the concepts and extremely frustrating when you don't. Math is a puzzle - and as long you have all the pieces - it can be a lot of fun!

Visual Basic

I taught myself VB, C#, and VBA using books, videos, articles, chat rooms, etc. I designed and wrote a software that is used today with approximately 20 users. The application gathers daily batch data and performs reconciliation for approximately 50% of the credit card issuers in North America. Once you understand the core of object oriented programming - libraries - etc. it becomes relatively easy to from language to language. In my 20+ years of experience, the IDE (Integrated Development Environment) is more critical to writing the code than the language itself.

VBA Scripting

Scott was extremely helpful with helping me better understand how to develop a great VBA script to analyze a tremendous volume of stock data. I struggled for two weeks and with a one hour session. Scott helped me figure out what I was missing.
