Teaching, for me, was the most exciting way to deeply learn about a subject matter. It is for that reason that I always looked for opportunities to teach when mastering a subject. I began teaching as early as 14 years old, teaching Strategy/Tactics at the world renown Barnes Tennis Education Center. Almost 20 years later, I still continue that same motivation to teach.
Although mastering content is crucial in passing the exam, my experience has proven to me that struggling test takers share a similar pattern of mistakes. These learning biases are difficult for their professors, classmates, and even other tutors catch. As a biopsychology major with an interest in education, I am increasingly aware of these learning biases. When tutoring my fellow classmates at my school's mentorship program, I noticed that struggling test takers fall into these classic biases. They tend to have an answer locked down before fully reading the passage. Others outright eliminate answers that they do not know. While others simply cannot structure their time. I look at these issues under a magnifying glass, giving my students the resources to track their mistakes and progress through graphics and fillable spreadsheets. This increases my student’s motivation as they see improvement and their ability to self-coach as they begin to understand their maladaptive patterns. In addition to teaching the content, I aim to equip test takers with the tools to navigate the test even when they don't know the right answer.
Knowledgable and more than just a tutor
When I first started working with Sean, I was 6 weeks out from Step 1 and pretty unsure if I was on track to passing. From the very first meeting with Sean, I felt right away that he had a well-honed philosophy for test preparation and was ready to help me develop a plan to get ready. Literally the first time we spoke, my confidence began to grow because he not only had a well-thought out approach to helping me prepare but he also understood the health challenges I was dealing with and genuinely cared about how he could best help me navigate those in preparing for Step 1. Every time I worked with Sean, he not only was teaching me great test-taking skills and doing helpful content review for problem areas, but he was building up my confidence that I could not only pass the exam, but do well on it. Sean makes you feel like you've got a great partner behind you the whole time and I saw fairly quickly great improvements in my practice exam scores. By the time I took the exam, I felt so much more confident in my abilities and even when I had last minute test-anxiety, Sean was there to reassure me that the work we had done would pay off and in the end, he was exactly right and I scored well on Step 1. To give you some insight into how crucial some of the test-taking lessons Sean taught me, some of the strategies I remembered during a critical part of my exam when I was mentally worn out. I literally could hear Sean's advice in my head, and I am convinced this was just one example of how the test-taking skills he taught me were a key part of my success on test day. Bottom line is, if you're struggling with test preparation, just want additional support, or need a lot of help with any subject area, I am telling you, run and don't walk to sign up to work with Sean, you will not regret it.Nathan, 14 lessons with Sean

Sean is an amazing tutor! I would recommend him to any student struggling with board prep (especially if you do not have much time left). I made more progress with him in just 2 months then I made by myself in an entire year. He will give you a study schedule that really works! He is very knowledgeable on what resources to use and how to use them based off real research and stats. He is a great teacher and even made himself available to answer questions I had outside of our sessions. I was impressed with how easy he made topics that I previously struggled with mastering. I would give him 10/10 stars and plan on hiring him again for future tests!Jennifer, 4 lessons with Sean
Knowledgeable and supportive tutor
What Sean helped me with the most was providing me with different techniques I could use to approach a question and find the answer even if I wasn't 100% confident. These tips helped give me more tools when approaching a question, and gave me more confidence. He was also helpful in coming up with a realistic and flexible schedule for my dedicated time before the USMLE and COMLEX. Definitely would recommend Sean as a tutor!Kiele, 4 lessons with Sean
I highly recommend Sean to anyone who is taking USMLE!
I was very fortunate to have found Sean. I had tried another tutoring service ( big name company) before I came to Wyzant, but Sean’s tutoring was far better in quality and value for money. It was evident from day one that he is an excellent and gifted tutor. I was also impressed by his knowledge, experience, and passion to teach. Here are some highlights of what I liked about his tutoring: advice on study strategy based on research findings ( evidence based), immediate feedback on my test taking skills, clear and concise explanation on challenging concepts, objective yet always positive feedback, available for questions even outside of sessions, guidance on prioritizing tasks. I studied with Sean for one month and was able to strengthen my test taking skills and knowledge base, also build confidence to go into exam. Towards the end, I started enjoying MCQ which I always hated before. I highly recommend Sean to anyone who is taking USMLE and learn how to manage this beast-I am positive you would be grateful that you did.Sayuri, 9 lessons with Sean
