Harvey Mudd College - In Progress (Computer Science)
Hi there! I am an Atlanta native who grew up and attended school locally. In middle and high school, I was placed in honors and AP classes with students who were in the grade above me, and I earned multiple class awards for top student over the years. During my senior year, I took post-AP classes in multivariable calculus and linear algebra. At the age of 17, I was the salutatorian of my high school graduation class. I earned the top score of 5 on the following AP tests: Calculus BC, Computer Science A, Statistics, Physics C, Chemistry, Microeconomics and Biology. I also scored a perfect 800 on the math section of the SAT as well as 800 on both the SAT Math II and SAT Chemistry subject tests.
During high school, I often was called upon to assist friends and other students in a variety of subjects, but especially in math. Before my junior and senior years of high school, I spent the last two weeks of each summer with several other students running a workshop where all students from the middle and high schools could get assistance with their summer math assignments. Last spring, I began tutoring students in math part-time with Helen Hackworth and Associates. Helen would be happy to speak with parents or students about my qualifications as a math tutor. Please let me know if you would like to contact Helen for a reference.
I firmly believe that many aspects of learning are enhanced when students can relate the material to other contexts about which they already are passionate. This is especially true for math, where the abstract nature of the content is often removed from the daily world of young students. As a result, students frequently are turned off to math before discovering its connections to their passions and hobbies. With this in mind, I make a conscious effort with all students to relate difficult concepts and problems to things that they already are genuinely excited to discuss.
On a personal level, I am a big fan of sports, especially soccer and basketball, both of which I played from early childhood through high school. I still enjoy playing pick-up games in both sports, and I love watching international soccer. I am also an avid supporter of the new Atlanta United soccer team! As a computer science major, I am very interested in everything related to computers, and I keep up with the latest news and technologies in the field. I have done several original coding projects, including Android applications and web application games. However, my greatest passion is music. I took piano lessons for over a decade, and I now pursue digital music production as a hobby. I enjoy listening to a wide variety of genres, including electronic, rock, hip hop, and jazz.
I appreciate your time in considering me to help you or your child through personal tutoring. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I would love to hear from you and work something out. I look forward to hearing from you!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
