The Pennsylvania State University (Chinese)
My name is Drake and I'm a Senior at The Pennsylvania State University studying Chinese. I grew up outside Atlanta and attended school locally until I went to boarding school at Phillips Academy Andover in Boston, MA. During my high school tenure there, I spent two years abroad in Beijing, China studying Chinese at Beijing Normal University. I fell in love with Asian culture and spent my senior year of high school in Seoul Korea studying Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
I am currently back home finishing my Senior year's worth of credits online through Penn State. I am looking to become involved in teaching abroad eventually and would love to tutor locally for the next year. I have a total of 9 years of Chinese under my belt and 2 of those years were full immersion studies abroad. I am very flexible with hours and know exactly what it is like growing up in Georgia and studying Asian languages.
I am a Chinese major with 9 years of Chinese learning. I lived in Beijing with a host family for 2 years in high school studying Chinese at a local University there. I know exactly what it is like to study Chinese in America at a high school and college level, and my time spent abroad dispelled any poor techniques or tendencies that foreigners often have when learning Chinese. In this respect, I feel that I am a very relate-able and experienced scholar and would to pass my knowledge on to others.
Please, if you have any questions regarding my qualifications or experience feel free to contact me. I am very eager to start tutoring and would love to hear from you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
