About Erin

I am a current NCAA Division I academic tutor with the Georgia Tech Athletic Association. In addition, I have many years of experience working with college students to master time management, study skills, and English, research, and writing generated subjects.

I am available to tutor 1-3 times a week with flexibility on the weekends and evenings. Further, I would prefer tutoring in a neutral location, such as a coffee shop or library.

In order for us to be successful in working together, I require copies of syllabi and course requirements, as well as previous exams with which to work. I encourage my students to set three goals for themselves at the beginning of each tutoring week so that they can be evaluated at the end of the week to ensure adequate progress, improvement, and growth.

I look forward to working with you to meet all of your tutoring needs and to encourage your student to reach his or her full potential!

In English, I encourage students to write exactly what they think first. This philosophy comes from my love of the process of creativity and the eloquence of the written word. In addition, I am fluent in the Spanish language, so I have a unique understanding of the English language and a gift for the written word.

In Spanish, I attended the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program in 2008, I won regional, state, local, and national recitation competitions, and completed four years of coursework in high school, in addition to earning a perfect score on the Advanced Placement Spanish exam in 2009.

I have worked with students with special needs for the better part of 14 years in a variety of academic and social settings. Most recently, I have worked with college students who have disabilities that range from Attention Deficit Disorder to cerebral palsy in managing their time and academic schedules throughout their college careers.

I look forward to meeting all of your tutoring needs! Please feel free to contact me to schedule tutoring and to check my availability!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I have a passion for writing, grammar, and expression. Additionally, I have tutored NCAA athletes in English.

Spanish

I have tutored Spanish for nearly 8 years and have taken three years of on level Spanish as well as one Advanced Placement course. I was a Governor's Honors Program participant in Spanish and have won local, regional, state, and national competitions.

Special Needs

I have worked with college students with disabilities for 3+ years. Prior to that, I had experience working with students of all ages with disabilities in a variety of academic and social settings. Further, I have a disability of my own and understand strategies to mitigate the effects of disability in the academic environment. Currently, I am studying rehabilitation counseling, a field that advocates for vocational, social, and economic independence among adults with disabilities.

Study Skills

I have aided NCAA student-athletes and students with disabilities in learning and maintaining study skills in order to attain success. In addition to teaching basic test-taking and knowledge strategies, I specialize in including a bit of time management. This comes from the philosophy that if people understand that they have time to study, it will be accomplished effectively.

Writing

I have always loved writing, and I was an undergraduate psychology major, so writing, especially technically, is a passion and a skill that I value immensely.
