About Chase

This fall I will begin my freshman year at Stanford University double majoring in computer science and Japanese. I began studying Japanese as a freshman and high school and quickly took a liking to it. Over the past four years alone I have participated in many opportunities for Japanese immersion: In 2013 I was nominated for a program where a small group of Japanese speakers from America work with the Japanese government to strengthen bonds between Japanese and American youth; I also participated in a foreign exchange program where I stayed with a host family in Japan for a summer and then proceeded to host two Japanese students in my home the following year.

Additionally, I have participated in a multitude of Japanese competitions such as the Fulton Forum speech contest (in which I received a superior award), the annual Japanese Academic Challenge (which I have competed in for four years, where my team previously held the first place title), and a Japanese speech contest for College Students (I participated in my senior year in high school and received the third place award for my speech). As a result of my presence in these competitions, I have gotten the opportunity to personally meet with the consulate general of Japan to discuss international issues between our countries.

I participated in the International Baccalaureate Japanese Program which allowed me to take Japanese courses at an accelerated rate and at the end of my high school career take an IB Japanese Exam, which I passed, stating that I am moderately fluent in the language.

I have recently been a Japanese student and therefore I remember what it feels like to learn the language and have gained many techniques for building and maintaining proficiency in the language. Feel free to contact me to ask any questions and to schedule lessons!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Japanese

I have been speaking Japanese for the past four years. Over this time I have won and participated in numerous Japanese language speaking contests and events. I was also a part of the International Baccalaureate Japanese Higher level program in high school where I passed the IB language proficiency test.
