About Nicole

I believe that anyone can learn science and mathematics. Sometimes a different approach is necessary- visualization exercises, explanations, analogies to everyday life, and rote practice are all necessary competences of learning science or mathematics well enough to remember what you learn rather than the learn and dump after testing outcomes. Truly understanding the source material will help students succeed in later courses. The ability to learn critical thinking is a hallmark of science and something that anyone can accomplish.
My prior experience grants credence to the view that anyone who is willing to work hard can learn science and mathematics- not just learning well enough to pass, but learning well enough to build off and go further in those fields if they so desire. I have tutored general chemistry and general biology for a total of five years at the college level- three years in undergraduate and two years while in graduate school. I have also been a teaching assistant for general chemistry one, general chemistry two, and honor's general chemistry one at the college level. I have lead lab sections for a total of two years in general chemistry.

Mathematics is a basic part of chemistry. With out mathematics, chemistry is largely meaningless. Therefore in order to complete my everyday tasks at work I must use basic math, such as algebra one and two, statistics, and basic arithmetic.

I tutored chemistry and biology at the college level for five years. I have a bachelor's degree in both biology and chemistry and a master's degree in analytical chemistry. I currently work as a quality control chemist in the Atlanta area.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
