About Grace

I've always had a passion for teaching. I started by tutoring Spanish to my peers in high school. From there, during my college years, I tutored ESL to international students and later, to refugees while studying abroad in Egypt.

Half of a being a great teacher is being a learner. I've been studying Spanish for nearly 20 years and minored in it in college. I've studied Arabic for 8 years (B.A. & M.A. in Arabic Studies) and lived in Egypt for nearly 3 years. This experience and education gives an advantage to not only pass what I know in these languages on but to understand the journey that second language learners experience.

I first worked with ESL students by volunteering at my university's ESL programs as a language tutor ( meeting international students a few times a week giving them the opportunity to practice conversational and Standard English and to become acclimated with American culture).
During my graduate studies and after, I volunteered at non-profit organizations teaching and assisting teachers in ESL to refugees.

Learning a different language is in no way easy. It requires patience, practice, and creativity both for teaching and learning it. I promise to exhibit and exalt this while tutoring wherever I go. It brings me great joy to see a student of any field / subject master and get to the next level in it.

I look forward to this with my students. Please contact me if you or someone you know need help in Arabic, Spanish, and/or English as a Second language. Thanks.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Arabic

I have a B.A. and M.A. in Arabic Studies with focus on Arabic language and literature. I read, write, speak, and understand Modern Standard Arabic at the intermediate -high level and Egyptian Colloquial dialect from living in Egypt for nearly 3 years.

great teacher — I continue to make consistent, pleasant progress with this learned lady, if I may use this expression, which I find quite apt. I can read and write most of the alphabet and read some words. An Arabic word is "not Greek to me" any more, forgive the pun or whatever that was. Actually perhaps an interesting mixed metaphor, as languages like Arabic, Mandarin and Hindi are the new frontier, as Gr ...
