About Calvin

Hi,

My name Calvin, I have several years’ experience working in the field of engineering with an intensive mathematics background. When working in the field of engineering it always involve problem solving. During my education experience, math was a strong area of mine which helped me develop efficient problem solving skills. These skill sets helped me in my career and proved beneficial in working in the engineering industry.

If you're a student and you're struggling in math, you can over come it, because I'm definitely familiar with the struggle of solving math problems. As a high school and college student, I occasionally had my complications figuring out how to solve Algebra equations, and derivatives in Calculus.

With my interest in numbers and problem solving I sometimes struggled while studying. One of my peers recommended a tutor, initially I was apprehensive about it, but later on I decided to invest in one. The tutor that assisted me, Algebra in particular not only helped me understand what I was doing but also encouraged me in my studies. With the effort I put in on my behalf of the tutor, I realized my confidence was building and it became worthwhile. I ended up passing my Algebra and Calculus classes with above average grades with an A and B, respectively.

As a result of this tutoring experience, I became interested in tutoring algebra, which lead me to support my six nieces and nephews, age ranging between 16 and 22, in their math education in high school and college. It helped me to keep current with their studies in math throughout in order for me to understand what they were being taught, thus replicate it in my tutor sessions with them. Confidence is important in whatever we do, whether it's in school, work, and in life. If we have confidence, we can take on any task and not be discouraged. My nieces and nephews excelled in their Algebra classes in attaining above average grades and I am determined to help others excel.

I believe my tutoring knowledge is sufficient in the areas of Algebra 1 and PreAlgebra that students should be able to grasp the work and have a good understanding in there studies. I would also provide learning tools that students can utilize throughout high school, college, and beyond. With my love for assisting, tutoring, and helping kids, it makes the learning experience that much enjoyable.

If you're a student in need of a tutor I can be sure to assist you with any questions you may have. You are more than welcome to reach me during my schedule hours to set an appointment.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I'm qualified to tutor Algebra 1, because of my engineering background and strong admiration for mathematics and problem solving. I enjoy solving problems and I enjoy helping others solve problems. As a tutor, I will provide several methods in solving variables, evaluating expressions, equations, word problems and others. As a student I've worked and studied to receive an A in this course. I realize I enjoyed Algebra 1 a lot and that's what motivated me to help others in this subject. As a result with my experience and tutoring knowledge, I believe my tutoring will prove beneficial for your child in gaining confidence and achieving the highest grade possible.

Economics

Economics was my major at Depaul University which I attained a BA degree. I believe my background in economics was very sufficient and that was because of having really good instructors. My educational experience allowed me to understand the factors between micro and macroeconomics. With having a sufficient background in economics, I believe my tutoring will prove to be beneficial for students and adults.

Prealgebra

I'm qualified to tutor Prealgebra, because I love math, I enjoy problem solving and I enjoy helping others. As a student I achieved an A in Prealgebra from the assistance of tutors. The tutors gave me the confidence I needed to study hard, thus later on I became a tutor interested in helping others. As a result, I tutored my nieces and nephews through their math education and they've received high grades. Therefore, with my experience and tutoring knowledge, it will prove beneficial for your child in the long term with there grades and confidence.
