I taught introductory sociology at Kennesaw State University 2002-2007 and was very disappointed to see that many students had not yet mastered basic writing skills and had difficulty organizing their research papers. Rather than just grade their papers, I took much time and effort to rewrite sentences for them, suggest a better outline structure, and give them the opportunity to re-write. Besides really wanting to help these students to both improve their writing skills and to understand thoroughly the concepts of sociology, I was motivated by the memory of a professor at GSU who had been very helpful to me when I was a struggling undergraduate. His extra attention and efforts greatly affected my desire to work harder and perform better --- and I did.
I sought additional tutoring all through my undergraduate college years and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I went on to pursue my master's degree and have now completed my coursework and comprehensive exam for my PhD in Industry & Organizational Psychology. My keen interest in the underlying psychological, sociological, physiological, and neurological variables in the way we think, feel, and behave has guided me throughout. I continue to be very passionate about working with individuals and groups to help them to perform their best. I do this through my Coaching business and now I want to offer tutoring because I love to see the light bulb effect occur with my clients and students.
My Bachelor's is in psychology, Master's in sociology, and PhD in Industry & Organizational (I-O) psychology. I-O psychology is quite eclectic in that while very business oriented, it greatly expands on basic psychology and sociology, and introduces neuroscience to the mix. Basic psychology and sociology provides necessary knowledge and skills for social interaction (social intelligence). The individuals who have the highest social intelligence tend to rise up in business and other social spheres quickest and highest.
If you are seeking to learn more about sociological and psychological concepts and how to express your knowledge in written form (research papers), we may be a great fit. I consider teaching a sharing of strengths as well as knowledge. We will first identify your strengths and then build upon them for better performance. I welcome you to contact me via phone or email to learn more about me and to schedule upcoming lessons. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a Crisis and Psychological Capital Coach, I explain psychological, sociological, and neurological processes extensively. My pending (completing my dissertation) PhD in Industry & Organizational Psychology has allowed me the opportunity to expand across these disciplines.
I obtained my Master's degree in Sociology in 2001 and taught as an adjunct instructor at Kennesaw State University 2002-2007. Since, I have gone on to complete my course work and comprehensive exam towards my PhD in Industry & Organizational psychology and I am currently working on my dissertation. I currently tutor my 6-year-old grandson on all of his homework, as well as how to develop strategy for playing chess.
