Williams College (Art History)
Hi potential tutorees,
My name is Catherine, and I have tutored children (and adults) for years on a diverse range of subjects. I graduated with a dual degree in Art History and French from Williams College in Massachusetts, where I also studied Biology, Calculus, and English. While there I spent a year abroad in France and became fluent in the language. After graduating, I moved to New York and worked for a year as an editor for a website. I also spent time copywriting, fact-checking, and tutoring several children in reading, writing, and college essay-writing.
I specialize in college prep (everything from SAT prep to coaching kids through the CommonApp), but I can improve your children's grades and focus in any subject! I am reliable, organized, and communicate well with children of all ages. I have many years of tutoring experience and truly know how to help children focus and succeed.
If you're looking for someone to improve your child's college applications or help them through their homework, I'm your woman.

Catherine is everything that a parent could wish for and more when it comes to searching for a tutor. The immediate connection with her wonderful personality gave my son the comfort he needed to tackle the courses he was needing help in.
Catherine is incredibly knowledgeable in so many fields, patient, upbeat and responsible. She worked incredibly hard to work around our hectic schedule; was always on time and started the tutoring session just as soon as they sat down. Catherine always followed up with a review and reminders for things that my son needed to work on. He's taking the SAT today, and last night, Catherine sent a reminder for him to bring his formula sheet. I was so grateful for that as we were trying to finish up some last minute things. We plan to continue to use Catherine as our tutor for both children, as she definitely earned 5 stars in our family!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have played the violin since I was six years old (eighteen years). I began by learning with the Suzuki method, which truly helped to develop my ear. I played in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra through high school and attended Interlochen Arts Camp for two years. During this time, I taught violin to kindergarteners during my summer breaks. I also played weddings and parties with a chamber music group.
When I turned 16, I switched to the viola because I preferred the deeper sound. However, I still know treble clef quite well and the basics of playing the instrument are the same. I played in the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra in college, and also took lessons under the violist Scott Woolweaver.
I am experienced in teaching violin and viola to people of all ages, from young children just starting out with a cardboard instrument to adults. I'm happy to set up a time to come to your home!
