About Nene

I am passionate about student learning and development. I have worked with a range of ages in different capacities over the past 10 years. My experience with youth ages 6-13 has mostly been focused on training and supporting teachers and educators to work with children in respectful, child-centered ways. I've worked with teenagers after school and in out of school time tutoring, mentoring, and doing academic and life coaching.

I did my undergraduate studies in Government at Harvard College. I graduated in 2009 and worked in government consulting for about year. I completed a Master's in Urban Planning at MIT in 2014. Community economic development, curriculum and training development, and strategic planning are currently my main areas of work. Working individually with students - tutoring, mentoring, etc. helps me link my work more deeply to young people's experiences within the education system.

As far as specific subjects, reading comprehension, grammar, and verbal reasoning have always been my strongest points. I have a strong foundation of math up to the algebra level and basic knowledge in the sciences. I am therefore confident about tutoring and/or coaching in most subjects through the high school level. I scored a 750 (of 800) on the SAT Verbal test and a 720 on the SAT Math test. My ACT English score was a 33 (of 36), ACT Math 32, ACT Reading 35, ACT Science 35. I took the SAT subject tests as well and got a 640 on the writing test (bad test day), 740 in US History, and 730 on the Math IC test. I took AP Calculus AB in High School and got a 5 on the exam. AP US History I received a 4 on the exam and in AP Physics I received a 3. I took the GRE in 2011 and scored: 169 in Verbal, 158 in Math and 4.5 on the Writing portion. I also took the LSAT and got a 165.

Feel free to reach out if you need support in any of the subjects/areas I've mentioned above. Or, if you are looking for the tutoring/coaching style I have mentioned, contact me to discuss my confidence in the subject you need help with. I am very flexible! Good luck!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Intelligent, patient and great tutor!

Nene is a patient and intelligent tutor and helped my daughter’s 7th grade essay writing by guiding the outline and giving her the idea how to revise it exactly. My daughter had only two times lesson for 4 hours with Nene and got a great help. I'm very impressed and pleased with her tutoring and looking forward to next time. She is the best tutor and educator ever!
