Over the past few years, I have helped numerous math students raise failing grades to A's, tackling everything from basic arithmetic to advanced calculus. Factoring problems? I'm your man. Over the past few years, I have helped numerous math students raise failing grades to A's, tackling everything from basic arithmetic to advanced calculus. Factoring problems? I'm your man. Don't understand congruence proofs? I can help. Over-intimidated by trigonometric identities? I've got you covered.

I always try to help my students understand new concepts in terms of those with which they are already familiar. I patiently break down new formulas and processes until they look like familiar ones. I observe their current problem-solving strategies to figure out their weaknesses and train them to discover the best practices that work for them. No two students learn the same way, and I try to individually prepare all my sessions to best suit each student.

Additionally, I'm well-versed in the entire gamut of standardized tests (including SAT, ACT, PSAT, SSAT, and ISEE), ever-ready with practice for content review and multiple-choice strategies. Previous success stories include a client who got an 800 on the reading portion of the SAT and another who scored a 35 on the math section of the ACT.

Before becoming a professional nerd, I obtained my bachelor's degree in media studies with minors in English and philosophy from Vassar College. Previously, I have worked as a journalist and a marketer—backgrounds that strengthened my grammar skills and made me an adept writing instructor to boot. As a result, I can help you with any tutoring request in the humanities.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I understand how basic algebra figures into our day-to-day lives, but it can be difficult for students to see how linear relationships and quadratic functions benefit them. I use real-world applications to help students become more comfortable with all the abstract variables that typically throw off high schoolers. As a result, I have helped many math-phobic students become masters of factoring.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I often see a glazed look come over my students' faces when I mention synthetic division or conic sections for the first time. Advanced algebra always seems complicated to the uninitiated. I know how to help them see that polynomials are just the next step after quadratics and that sequences are just special kinds of lists.
Geometry,

Geometry

I have helped many students to master the art of the two-column proof and to discern the differences between similar and congruent triangles. I show them how to organize different shapes based on certain criteria and how to verify those classifications using theorems and postulates. After working with me, my students will feel so comfortable with right triangles that not even trigonometry scares them.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

As the final step before calculus, I know how intimidating this course can be to most students. I can help them gain a deep understanding of all the essential concepts: functions, rational equations, inverses, logarithms, trigonometry, vectors, and series. Through extensive practice, I have helped students learn general steps they can use to solve any problems in those areas.

Trigonometry

I know how to help students understand the logic behind SOH-CAH-TOA and the short-cuts for memorizing the parts of the unit circle. I can teach them how to model real-world scenarios using trigonometric functions. I also have plenty of practice problems to make sure they are comfortable with proving trigonometric identities and solving trigonometric equations.

Test Preparation

ISEE,

ISEE

I have helped many students prepare for the ISEE and its sister test, the SSAT. Both standardized tests are used to determine whether a student is academically prepared for private school. The ISEE is more like the ACT, while the SSAT, as its name would imply, is more like the SAT. I have helped students decide which test best suits their needs, gone over all the covered content (including the math, verbal, and reading sections), and discussed the test's scoring method and any tactics one can use to game the exam. Previous students have scored well enough to garner admission to their top choice schools.

Great Teacher, he has a lot of patience

He really helped me to brush up on my science material. I forgot half of the lessons we went over because it has been a while since I’ve done them. He had the patience to help me understand the topic correctly, because I had no clue what to do on some of the assignments. Really helpful for math, hopefully next time we can work on English/Reading.

Excellent, Dedicated Tutor

This is the second year Jackson has worked with my son. Its amazing that 2 hrs/week with him is far superior to what he gets from his tutoring and teachers at his school for support.
