My name is Bethaney W., and I am passionate about teaching students about the hows and whys of mathematics. I enjoy taking abstract concepts and breaking them down into a concrete level so that students understand the rationale behind certain mathematical processes. I believe that all students are capable of learning mathematics, but that skill and fluency derives from consistent practice, accurate feedback, and a general understanding of the application of certain concepts.
In addition, I have passed the GACE in Middle School Mathematics, Middle Grades Language Arts, and High School Mathematics at a professional level. As a tutor, I have had several years of working closely with students in history and writing. I enjoy unraveling the mechanics of the English language,as well as demonstrating the methodology behind writing great papers. I believe that much of the difficulty confronting many students is the fact that much of the knowledge seems to be unobtainable, but that once students realize that there is a process underlying many of the most ostensibly difficult concepts, learning becomes a lot easier. Overall, I am passionate about education and helping students reach their goal of college and career readiness. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
