About Andrew

I specialize in teaching test prep strategies and core concepts as well as general math and language arts skills for school. Having taught hundreds of students grade-school level math and college-level statistics, I emphasize teaching math as simple and intuitive. Likewise, I emphasize developing a set of problem-solving strategies that will provide the student with a flexible tool kit for tackling future problems.

Part of my overarching goal in teaching these topics is to communicate how to approach these learning tasks as life-learners. As an instructor at the college level, I prioritize growing students in addition to achieving short-term success in a class or on a test. Additionally, as an experienced tutor, I understand how individualizing the learning experience is key for maximizing student potential. Over 94% of my past students have rated me in the highest category of "caring" about student needs.

I have Bachelor's degrees in both Political Science and Philosophy as well as a Master's degree in Political Science. Currently, I am in my final semester of my PhD in Political Science. Through the course of my graduate training, I have studied statistics, linear algebra, and econometrics. Additionally, I have taught introductory courses in applied statistics and American politics to hundreds of undergraduate students.

I am flexible both in terms of meeting location and meeting times. I also highly value communication and am willing to make reasonable accommodations as necessary. Although I have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I am willing to make up lessons as necessary.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you get to where you want to go!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Econometrics

I am completing a PhD in Political Science, with one of my main research agenda addressing the use of econometrics. I've also taught over 400 students introductory research methods, which includes the statistical components of econometrics, as well as research design.

GRE

I've taught over 100 students in GRE prep classes, and I've tutored many in private one-on-one sessions. My approach to the GRE entails imparting an understanding of how students can used the standardized nature of the test to their advantage. While this is a key component of being successful on the GRE, I also teach the basic math concepts and verbal strategies necessary for a high score.

Logic

I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy, where I was a member of the philosophy honor society. In addition to using logic throughout my coursework, I also aced my symbolic logic class.

Political Science

I am qualified to teach political science because I have been teaching it at the college level for Emory University. I have taught over 400 undergraduates in the course of completing my PhD in Political Science. I also hold BA and MA degrees in political science.

STATA

I am completing my PhD in Political Science, which involves the analysis of quantitative political data. Through the course of earning this degree and my Master's in Political Science, I have used STATA to manage and analyze my data. I have been STATA in this capacity for 7 years.

Statistics

I am completing a PhD in Political Science, with one of my main research agenda addressing the use of statistics to analyze political data. I've also taught over 400 students introductory research methods, which includes the statistical components of econometrics, as well as research design. I have also been published in Political Analysis, which is a peer-reviewed journal covering the use of statistics to analyze politics.
