About Teri

Greetings! I’m Teri. If you are looking for a comprehensive tutor with an advanced education and a love for helping students grow academically, then I would love to help!

A snapshot of my background:

•Grew up in Atlanta
•Earned a master’s degree in Organizational Psychology from Walden University, where I graduated with a 3.7 GPA and was inducted into the Psi Chi Honor Society.
•Graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a 3.5 GPA.
•Tutored students of all ages, backgrounds and academic ability, and I always strive to make learning a fun experience.
•Have over 15 years experience writing for online and offline media platforms.

In addition to helping students improve their grades, I am also highly dedicated toward helping children (and adults) become successful learners and critical thinkers. My approach gives them the academic tools they will need during their elementary and middle school years in addition to helping them tackle the difficult high school and college curriculum they will face in the future. However, I never use a “one size fits all” approach. I always make sure that every child’s individual earning styles and abilities are addressed in order to foster a more personalized learning relationship.

As an avid reader, former writer and editor, I like to include the mechanics of good English in all the subjects I teach. Whether it’s biology, history, literature or language arts, using proper English on tests and papers is essential. In fact, we know that communication skills in general are important, and having that foundation early in life is an advantage in an otherwise competitive world. However, I am committed to creating an atmosphere that is stimulating and adaptive to the varied needs of students, so my aptitude is to remain flexible and adaptable toward each student’s needs.

Over the years, it’s been wonderful to witness my students learn and grow individually and within a classroom setting. Whether it’s a graduate student I’ve helped on a research paper or a first-grader I’ve worked with in math, it’s rewarding to know I’ve helped my tutees, even just marginally, establish the confidence and skills they’ll need to be successful in life.

I am excited about working with your student to help them discover their own path to learning, and teaching them the communication skills necessary to become successful adults in all aspects of their lives.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

Seasoned artist and art teacher with over 15 years of experience exhibiting artwork in galleries, coffee shops, restaurants and museums nationwide. Additional experience teaching 6th grade art, high school art and working in a summer camp called Artipalooza as an art teacher.

Elementary (K-6th)

My teaching experience includes preschool at Sherith Israel, 6th grade at the Greenfield Hebrew Academy, resource reading teacher at High Point Elementary, and Kindergarten through 3rd grade at Abracadoodle Learning Center. I also have over 15 years of writing experience in both online and offline media platforms.

Painting

Painting for over 20 years, my artwork has been featured in over 18 galleries nationwide as well as in several museums and gift shops. I have taught art to kids ranging from ages 3-17 in both the private and public sectors. I love helping other budding artists grow!

Study Skills

As an English tutor for over 3 years, I always incorporate the importance of organization and the structure of learning in my lessons. I explain how to outline the material and how to decide on the main points being made. I usually suggest they break the material down into manageable parts so they don't feel overwhelmed with the quantity of material. I advise them to study in a quiet place at the same time every day so they get used to the routine. So far it's worked out very well and the students and parents are pleased with the results.

Writing

I would be happy to help your student. I have written for over 15 years for both online and offline media platforms, and received my Master's degree from Walden University in 2008. I also taught reading at High Point Elementary for two years and am currently attending the University of Texas' professional writing program for advanced writers.I am experienced in Microsoft applications, social media, proofreading, copy editing, AP, APA, and Chicago writing styles.

My approach to teaching is done step-by-step and at the student's pace, however, I do encourage students to challenge themselves. I've tutored students of all ages and backgrounds and strive to make our sessions enjoyable.

I am usually available during the week and on Sundays, so let me know what works for you.

Going great!

Teri is such a wonderful tutor. She has been helping our 2nd grader who has been struggling in math and reading comprehension. We're already seeing huge improvements after just a few lessons. Teri is very good at keeping our little guy on task and praising him when he's tackled a challenge. He loves her too and wants to do well. We're really happy with Teri.
