About Farahna

Hi, my name is Farahna. I'm a music education major at Georgia State University.
I will be graduating in the Spring of 2015. While my concentration is music, I have other areas of the school curriculum I'm interested in and excel in such as Biology, SAT (Maths, Reading, Writing), Algebra, History, Chemistry, and any subject K-8th I can teach beginning violin and piano, and double bass into college. I also currently tutor students with autism, ADD, and ADHD- students with IEPs I've helped in reading, writing, and maths. I've done a few summer camps with large number of students from ages 5-16. I'm very patient/gentle with kids, and always for kids to make their mistakes and help them through it.

Even though I'm studying to be a teacher, I've enjoyed one-on-one or private tutoring. I feel it's supplemental education such has private tutoring that helped me excel in school when I was younger. Since I grew up outside of the United States, few of the subjects were a bit more difficult for me, and at times, it helped me just to stay caught up when in class instruction was not enough. I remember what it's like to struggle with simple grammar in English or equations in Maths. I am able to provide one-on-one attention with any age students in any subject they are struggling with. I'm able to go at their pace because it is important for them to understand the information than speed through it.

Aside, from tutoring I work with animals for my day job, enjoy decorating, and reading.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I've been tutoring math for more than four years and currently tutoring students in Geometry.

Elementary (K-6th)

I'm currently an education major at Georgia State University specialized to teach K-12th grade. I've been a camp counselor for kids ages 5-13 and currently tutoring elementary students one-on-one in maths, science, and reading. I enjoy being around younger students and very patient with them.

Music History

I am a music education major at Georgia State University. I've studied two semesters of music history from Baroque to 20th century; this includes: composers, major pieces, characteristics, and events from each time period.

Violin

I am a music education major at Georgia State University, and I've been a string musician for 10+ years. In my schooling, I'm required to learn all band and orchestra instruments but very comfortable with strings. I've learned violin for a few years, as well as, learn to teach the instrument to beginning violinists. I'm able to transfer my technique in other instruments to teach violin to make it a comfortable and successful experience for students.
