Georgia State University Robinson College of Business (Master's)
Hello! My name is Tia. I have a bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science (minoring in Statistics from Ohio State University). I graduated Magna Cum Laude in the Art and Sciences Honors program from OSU and then I worked formally as an actuary for 1.5 years in Columbus, OH. I just recently moved to Atlanta for graduate school. I am currently working on my Master's degree in Mathematical Risk Management at J. Mack Robinson College of Business - Georgia State University. I was awarded a Merit Teaching Assistant position upon enrollment. For my actuarial exams I have passed Exam P, FM, MFE, ST, LC and Exam 5. In the Finance area I have passed CFA Level I Exam.
I love teaching math/stats and interacting with students. I have 1.5 year of tutoring experience among which seven months of formal tutoring experience at OSU as a math/physics tutor. I was certified by College Reading and Learning Association, and I had a formal training for the tutor position provided by the University. I earned perfect score for AP calculus AB, calculus BC, physics B, physics C: mechanic, macroeconomics and microeconomics before I entered OSU. I am also an Excel, SAS tutor. During my work as an actuary I gained extensive background and knowledge in advanced Excel and SAS.

Tia is very helpful because she explains the difficult terms and problem types in ways that I can understand. She lets you work the problem waiting for you to make a mistake and then she corrects the mistake at that exact moment. This helps me learn what my mistakes are and helps me to fix them immediately. I will continue to seek her tutoring services.
Tia has done a great job of walking me through concepts and helped make a very difficult subject easier to understand. She is great to work with, ALWAYS professional and very knowledgeable.
Tia has also been extremely flexible and always willing to work around my busy hectic schedule.
Could not have done it without her!
Tia takes the time to sit down and explain things in great detail. Often, one can easily find a person that is really good in math, yet the person doesn't know how to regulate the the back and forth nature of conversations that arise during tutoring sessions. Tia explains the material in depth and then allows the student to try to solve the problem. She permits the student to struggle with the problem, while providing hints and tips along the way to reach a solution. I highly recommend Tia for someone looking for a peer to peer relationship, where the tutor actually feels like one of your friends helping you in class.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
