Hi, my name is Susan. I am a Chinese native from Taiwan. I came to America after I finished my college education. I tutored school children both math and English while I was in college. It has been always my passion to help school children to reach their goals. I taught Chinese at the language institute in Atlanta for four years. I served as a Chinese language interpreter for six court circuits in Georgia.
I have been tutoring for more than 13 years in the math and language arts. I strive to help students reach their potential and excel. I know how to communicate well with my students and their parents. I am patient and firm.
I am very confident in my tutoring skills. I require my students to finish their assignment on time and encourage them to ask questions in class. I will find out the student's trouble areas and explain to them in detail until they thoroughly understand. I motivate my students and praise them for the their skills and achievements. I am very enthusiastic in helping you and your children.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been tutoring algebra 1 students for more than 12 years. I want to be sure my future students have mastered all math skills such as fundamental math skills, operations on positive and negative numbers, ratio and proportion, percentage, and conversions of decimals, fractions, and percentages. If they are struggling with these skills, they will need to review them thoroughly to enable them to move on to this level of study.
I am a native Chinese born to Chinese parents. I received formal Chinese education for 16 years before I became an immigrant in the United States. I am a former Mandarin Chinese instructor of the Berlitz language institute and have served as court language interpreter in Mandarin Chinese since 1986.
I have gained much valuable experience in tutoring students k-6 in the areas of math and language arts during the last 13 years.
Students are required to drill on the skills they have acquired and repeatedly reinforce them. Students are moving to the higher levels of skills with confidence. Their foundation on each level of skills becomes well grounded. It's rewarding for me to know they have fun and are excited in learning essential skills which can well prepare themselves to advance to middle school with ease.
I strive to help your child to excel. I focus on fundamental math skills, grammar, reading comprehension, spelling, sentence structure, punctuation, vocabulary, pronunciation, and composition.
I train my elementary math students to do math mentally (no figure counting and no scratch paper calculation when dealing with numbers less than 2 digits). They work on mental math exercise as a routing drill for each session. They must read with good understanding as to what is question is asking when dealing with word problem. I want to be sure that their practice is frequent and of course it is fun. I praise their success and provide help if error have been made. Students need constant encouragement when they struggle.
I will thoroughly review with my GED students on all math skills they require to master to pass the test successfully. The math skills for the GED are the combination of fundamental math skills, prealgebra, Algebra 1, few Algebra 2 questions and Geometry. I will help them acquire problem solving skills and a sound overall testing strategy.
I have wide experience in helping my grammar students improve their skills. I have been tutoring students grammar for more than 12 years. Since English is my second language, I had to study grammar thoroughly. I help them identify the eight parts of speech. It will need to practice frequently and thoroughly. The students are required to remember the basic grammar rules. They practice sentence writing over and over again and I will correct any grammatical errors. Students are to study their mistakes and drill more to refine their skills. There are many important skills are to be achieved on each part of the speech.
I drill my prealgebra students with basic concepts and skills in math. They can be quite challenging and fun. I motivate my students to think mathematically on real life situations. I inspire my students to apply the math skills in their daily life. Students must acquire the solid understanding on fractions, percentage, exponents, factors, multiples, and equations.
I work with students on common roots and stems. They will then learn the meanings. Then give them examples of the words. Also work on prefix and suffix. It is important to learn the basic spelling of its common roots, stems, prefix, and suffix. Learning the spelling of 30 key word parts can help students spell over 10,000 words. By following these vocabulary building tactics, my students will quickly master the spelling of numerous unfamiliar words.
To help my students with learning vocabulary, it is important for the students look up unfamiliar words frequently, learning the correct usage of the word by learning its definition. Also for the students write the example sentences in which the students use that word. I encourage students get in the habit of reading. This definitely help them improve their vocabulary. Make sure to set aside 20-30 minutes everyday to do some reading. They will circle the words that they don't understand and look them up. Then add them to their list of words to learn and drill repeatedly.
