About Geraldine

My tutoring experience extends from Early Childhood to High School levels. My methods include the use
of creative manipulative aids that I have collected over the years that enhance learning. One of the
most important skill that I have established is one of communication. It is crucial that my students
and I have a strong communication connection in order for me to determine what teaching aids would
be effective for my student's learning needs. My graduate work in Education prepares me to assist
all students of multiple intelligence in obtaining their learning goals.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a fifteen year educator in elementary education K-5th and middle school education 6th-8th. I have taught academic subjects to grades 5 to 6 that include the following: Language Arts, Spelling, Reading and Comprehension, and Health. My teaching experience include music education to grades K-6, as well. In addition, I have conducted after school assistance to middle school students, particularly in the areas of math and Language Arts.

General Music

My teaching experience in music education reflects on over 15 years teaching general music theory and application to elementary and middle school levels. My teaching methods reflect on students being able to identify the values and relationships of the following musical notations: notes, rests, sharps, flats, cadences, intervals, scales (major, minor, harmonic, melodic), time signatures, key signatures, treble and bass clef staves. Students are to be able perform sight reading and solfege. Students will be performing activites such as completing worksheets that require students to compose. Also the knowledge of basic musical vocabulary :tempo, beat, crescendo, decrecendo, etc. will be instructed.

Music Theory

Within my teaching experience, I have taught general music education that covers musical notations that include the relationship of musical notations and related rests, the identification, of symbols such as sharps, flats, ledger lines, intervals, cadences, major, minor, harmonic and melodic scales, whole and half steps, time and key signatures, treble and bass clef staves, musical equations, solfege and sight reading.

Phonics

My teaching experiences in early childhood reflects on the teaching of phoneme awareness to learners of all cultural diversity. With this in mind, my teaching methods include learning aids such the use of phonemic flash cards, as well as assisting learning and developing their listening skills. This is important in order for learners to vocalized specific blended consonant sounds.

Piano

My personal experiences in teaching piano stems from my family background, which reflects on my aunt and my father being musicians. I have performed in various music performances during my college years, as well as choral directing in summer camps. I facilitated at the elementary levels, piano labs and taught at grades 3-5. My favorite type of music reflects on the classics; namely, Beethoven and Mozart.
