Biochemistry can be a tough subject to understand at times; I like being able to help people get a better understanding of some of its concepts through direct tutoring.
I have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Duke University, with specific areas of expertise in primarily DNA replication, transcription, and gene mechanisms; however, I am able to help in most other areas as well.
In addition to Biochemistry, I am extremely savvy in both computer software and hardware, and have an excellent command of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
One of my best qualities is that I'm a patient teacher, and my goal is to always make sure that my students come away with a clear understanding of the fundamental elements of the subject being taught; this serves as a foundation for tackling more complex concepts down the line. Not only do I enjoy helping people learn, the experience also gives me a chance to keep the concepts fresh in my memory. I'm a little different, I suppose, from your average student. I'm a 47 year old executive who needed to update his PowerPoint skills. I found BJ's instruction profoundly useful and make my highest recommendation for his services. Polite, professional and a fine communicator. Everything one wants in a tutor. Money well spent.
I had a very beneficial class with BJ. It was exactly what I needed. It wasn't structured or following training material but that's because my needs are specific to my job requirements. I wasn't looking for a traditional excel training and I got what I needed from this class because BJ was willing to conduct this as a question and answer session more than traditional class.
BJ has already gotten me through enough to do most of my reports on an excel spreadsheet. He continues to be patient even though he has to repeat things to me. He has improved all aspects of my Excel capabilities and has improved my job performance with his knowledge of the excel program by tutoring me. Well worth the time and expense.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
