About Omilaye

I received a Bachelors degree in History, concentration American and Women's History in 2004 at one of the only historic institution founded by a woman: Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. I then taught as a English Literature and Creative Writing educator for a Florida college preparatory high school from 2006-2008. In 2008-2010, taught as an adjunct in African American History at USF. From 2009-2012, I was certified as an AVID tutor for two middle schools in Florida, and transferred to an Atlanta high school. In 2012, I worked for an after school tutorial program at an inner city after school program. I later resigned because of personal health challenges. I was diagnosed with a rare cancer and was treated with chemotherapy and radiation.

I am currently in remission, but not cleared to return to work in the school system. I am restricted from being around crowds, but am able to facilitate one on one private tutoring/tutorial sessions via Skype. I am currently finishing my Master's degree in Women's History and Literature. I am finished in coursework, and am working on my Master's thesis.

My style of tutoring resembles my teaching pedagogy as student-centered learning. I incorporate several contemporary learning methods that engage students into a well-rounded dialogue. I trust and have used Bloom's Taxonomy for several exercises. I also incorporate the three styles of learning into unique teaching lessons, and do not limit students to just one style of learning: auditory, visual, and kinesthetic.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
