My devotion to education is lifelong. Throughout my in-class instruction for 16 years in the Fulton County School system teaching U.S. History, World History and Geography, I have developed numerous study guides, videos, PowerPoints, and websites that are aligned with the new National Performance Standards for Social Studies. These materials are all designed to prepare students for their End-of-Course Tests in American Government, World History, and American History.
I have included in my review materials a wide variety of references and bibliographies which will aide the student in understanding the multicultural nature of American society. My job is to simplify the course curriculum and allow the student to take ownership of what is presented in class by establishing a solid foundation of the subject through the tutoring sessions.
When presented with the various study guides and references, along with my assistance, students will develop a process to succeed throughout the course instead of when they fall behind.
My depth of commitment in helping students learn and appreciate the study of history and generally all social studies is unwavering. Students should be made aware of the power of understanding history and how learning history allows them to make informed and intelligent decisions for the rest of their lives. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught American History and AP US History for 16 years. 87% passing rate for my students on the Georgia High School Graduation Test from 2004-2010. I keep current on political, economic, and military developments throughout the world that are important in understanding the events and issues that students will discuss in their history courses.
I taught US History both regular and Advanced Placement for 16 years. My expertise is relating lessons and events in US History to the major events that are being discussed currently. The ability for students to make connections to what has happened in the past to the events that are happening right now is critical in helping students to learn and retain the importance of history.
I have developed several PowerPoints, timelines, and biographical information for students to use in creating their personal strategies in studying a specific subject. I have been able to assist several high school students pass their graduation tests in social studies after they had failed several times. My method of teaching allows the students to grasp and retain the information which has lead to their passing the test. I am constantly upgrading all my tutorial materials and am ready to assist any student in their social studies courses.
