I am a dedicated STEM teacher and tutor in the Atlanta area. I am passionate about science/mathematics and enjoy sharing that passion with my students while helping them learn and get ahead!

I have taught General/Inorganic chemistry for four years now at both the high school and college level. Prior to that, I was a graduate teaching assistant for Tech, which required me to host regular "office hours" for drop-in tutoring in organic and general chemistry. I have taught General/Inorganic chemistry for four years now at both the high school and college level. Prior to that, I was a graduate teaching assistant for Tech, which required me to host regular "office hours" for drop-in tutoring in organic and general chemistry. I also served as an "academic coach" for two different Atlanta-based test prep companies for over two years.

I work with students to help them gain confidence and mastery around chemical and mathematical concepts and problem-solving. I will identify any gaps in the student's understanding, introduce the material in a way that resonates with them and builds on their working knowledge, and as necessary, communicate with students, parents and teachers regarding progress. Message me here if you're interested in scheduling a session!

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have tutored algebra 1 for four years in the Atlanta area through two separate tutoring companies. I have also had great practice applying algebraic concepts while solving complex chemical equations throughout my own studies (M.S. and B.S. in chemistry). I believe the ability to understand and use algebra is an important skill that benefits us in many practical ways, including understanding personal finances, building, planning, and shopping! My approach to studying algebra with students is to help them gain exposure and confidence by working practice problems under my guidance and gentle facilitation.

I have a Bachelor's degree in chemistry from Howard University, magna cum laude and a Master's degree from Georgia Tech in organic chemical synthesis. I have taught General/Inorganic chemistry for four years now at both the secondary and post-secondary levels. Chemistry has been my favorite subject since high school. I enjoy learning, applying, and experimenting with chemical principles. Moreover, I enjoy sharing that passion with my students and helping them find their own appreciation for chemistry in the world around us.

SSAT,

SSAT

As a test prep coach I co-led a class of 15-20 8th graders in a seasonal, 7 week preparatory course for the upper level SSAT. This course involved familiarizing students with the test design; teaching appropriate test-taking strategy; cultivating students' vocabulary, written, and math skills; assigning and grading homework problems in the students' practice books, and reviewing material covered by the exam.

She is awesome

I wish she could be my Chemistry teacher. She breaks it down in a way that I can understand, step by step.

LaRita Works!

So LaRita has been working with my 10th grade daughter just over 2 mos. She had the distinct challenge of solidifying my child’s Chemistry skill set in a short period to get her back on track for Spring semester. LaRita had to ease my child’s anxiety about the course and build her confidence in her innate ability to understand the work and excel. LaRita has worked with my daughter several times a week since early February and this is the most focused behavior I’ve witnessed. Their hard work paid off when I saw my child got a 96 on her last exam! This is nothing short of amazing bc my child’s missed several days each week due to an ongoing illness so LaRita’s toolbox of slides on the topics was the only instructional aid we had access to during the week. Her ability to break down the concepts and make them stick with my child was a blessing to see. If we could teleport LaRita we would. Best Investment I have made.

Great tutor

We've had weekly sessions with LaRita for the past 2 months. She was able to connect with my daughter from the very first session. She was able to determine the areas where my daughter needed extra attention. She is very knowledgeable and has the ability to help you understand in a clear easy way. I completely recommend her.

SSAT

LaRita was very effective in her technique and teaching skills. Her first lesson with my daughter was well presented and very effective. Her lesson was very well planned and organized which made it easy for her and my daughter to get through the planned lesson seamlessly

Knowledgeable teacher

LaRita has a great understanding of the information. She is thoughtful and very prepared with presentations and slideshows ready to go. However, sometimes seemed a little inpatient in the communication.

Tutor responded:

Hi Zach, I'm glad to hear that you found my slides helpful! I'm sorry that their delivery seemed impatient, though. When I get excited about the material, I know that I sometimes talk quickly, but I thought that I encouraged you to take more time as needed to think and ask questions. I hope that you will still consider our first session together a success, as we accomplished a lot, and I hope to get the chance to work with you again in the future! Best, LaRita

Great Job

Jasani said she really connected with LaRite. Her style and sense of humor made her tutoring session easy to understand She answer all questions and explain all answers

LaRita was incredibly kind, patient, and knowledgeable

LaRita worked with my daughter on SAT Math and I saw an immediate change in my daughter's attitude toward math after the 1st session. I'm very pleased with LaRita as a tutor & will continue to use her as my daughter prepares to take the SAT Exam soon. She's AWESOME!

SHE IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE!

LaRita is very knowledgeable when it comes to all 3 sessions of the upper level SSAT. My son enjoyed his first session with her and insured me that she was very patient and nice. I highly recommend LaRita for any test prep. In the conclusion of the session she explained to me step by step what was covered during the 60 minutes. We talked about a lesson plan and what she think would benefit Demetrius in the long run, and what he needed to work on. She also issued plenty of homework to be turned in and graded during his next session. She is AWESOME and I am so glad we decided to give her a try.
