Instructing for success means functioning as a mentor, collaborator, cheerleader, supporter across the disciplines. Achievement in any discipline will encompass focus, drive, desire and persistence.

My experience in reading instruction touches multi-fields and touches upon the skills of curriculum mastery involving not just processing the written word but writing, speaking and listening. Practice, discussion, self-reflection and the interaction of teacher student (that includes those roles being reversed at times!) make up the wonderful world of change, self-satisfying growth that 'education' can become for any learner. A tutoring program aligned with classroom instruction and featuring parent-home contact contains the major elements of parental involvement critical--especially for the younger learner--to the development of a total literacy program. I have witnessed the growth and scholastic successes of students when what is being done involves the parents throughout the decision-making process. Evidence of parental involvement and a deep commitment to a child's learning is tutorial assistance itself. The Home is directing the School...the child's needs are paramount. Empowering a child is a strategic success that spans all learning and opens windows of opportunities to learners far beyond their present stage of development.

My twenty-two years of experience as teacher and administrator have driven home the importance of individualized learning opportunities and 'leading' instructional behaviors needed by teachers to induce the greatest success in each student. The opportunities and the learning essentials available through professional tutoring cannot be understated.

I am well-versed in working with students with individualized needs. My certifications (current) include gifted, ESOL, math, social studies, history, behavioral sciences, early childhood and k-12 reading. I hold a T-5 in leadership.

Macroeconomics,

Macroeconomics

I am a retired teacher/administrator and taught Economics to both 9th grade and seniors. I have a current state certification in Economics as well as Social Sciences, History, Math. I am versed in meeting the knowledge and reading needs of students who first encounter economics as a discipline. In .addition, I am a trained and experienced Reading Specialist with added certification in ESOL and Gifted. In my experience, the nature of economics principles and behaviors is already well-known to young students and this knowledge quickly becomes 'applied' for them once terminology, relevance and personal experiences are evaluated in detail. The application of critical-thinking and directed reading skills are vital to success in this field (and in any higher-thinking, action-related endeavor). I can promote and develop this type of approach to economic study

Elementary Education

Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a current state certification in early childhood, math, social studies, reading, gifted and ESOL. I have more than 22 years' experience including 10 as instructional assistant principal at the elementary school and high school level. I would enjoy assisting your student in developing confidence, skills and knowledge in the subject areas so your student can capitalize on their full potential in school.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

As a teacher and administrator I have experience in developing programs and methods to promote mathematical skills directly benefiting students at individualized learning levels (IEP/EIP) at the Elementary School level. My experience includes similar programs at the high school level. My active state certification includes Mathematics,Reading, ESOL and Gifted as well as Early Childhood.
Reading,

Reading

I am a retired teacher and administrator with certification (active) in Reading, Math, ESOL, Social Studies and related disciplines. Reading is mental stimulation, a stress reducer, a knowledge builder, a vocabulary expander. It improves memory and strengthens analytical thinking skills as well as allowing a student to make great gains in focus and concentration leading to better writing, speaking and listening skills. I am a certified instructor in the OpenBook for Literacy technology used in reading instruction at both student and adult levels.
Study Skills

Study Skills

My state certificate is active. I am certified in social studies (broad field), esol, gifted, elementary ed, reading, math and administration. My educational background is 22 years as teacher/instructional assistant principal. I developed and implemented numerous learning programs at the elementary and high school grades. My programs included accepted practices and proven techniques of classroom teachers across the disciplines. As a reading education professional, I have observed that many students lack a fundamental know-how of how to internalize what is taught in classroom instruction. Essential study skills form the foundation of any learning task and those skills can be learned at ANY age. How to use and retain subject matter presented in a large group classroom setting involves simple study skills, techniques and support that can make the difference between success and frustration in a child's (and their parents's) school life.

Literature,

Literature

Reading is not only the absolute key to experiencing literature, it is the use of all of the critically-related skills in using one's language that provides the bridge to understanding and appreciating the world around us - both present, past and future. I am a retired teacher/administrator experienced in literature as an instructor and as an avid reader. Literature is the gateway to exploring our own culture, our knowledge base and the elements of other cultures, countries and societies. A learned reader develops the confidence to approach and tackle new, vocabulary, forms of writing, books, and disciplines that would not have been available had they not been exposed to a range of literature during their school days.

History

American History,

American History

I am a retired teacher/administrator with current state certification in history, political science, economics, geography and related social sciences. I also hold current certification in math, reading, ESOL and gifted education. I have more than 10 years experience as a history teacher and have more than 10 years working with teachers and others to bring reading and other skills to the study of history.
Classics,

Classics

My college major is history (language I took: Latin) and I taught American and World history as a high school teacher. I have a deep and abiding love for the development of thought, history and literature from Greek through Roman to the Renaissance revivals of the readings from classical societies. I currently hold an active state certification in History and broad field social sciences (I am retired after 22 + years) and have tutored numerous students in the discovery of the earliest writers from Beowulf to revivals wrought by Bacon and Thomas More. The study of Latin has also aided me in the presentation of the past that we call "Classics".
European History,

European History

I am a retired teacher/administrator with current state certification in History, pol. sic., Social Studies, Math, Reading, and have yet to dismiss any study of the development of ideas, social and economic shifts and struggles to survive natural calamity, wars or persecutions that studious examination of Europe's History can reveal. The study of History is to gain access to the laboratory of the Human Experience. The cultural links to the American experience are evident. When we study it reasonably well and acquire usable habits of mind--as well as some general information about the forces at work in our daily life--we can see the useful skills and greater ability to maintain ourselves as informed citizens, critically thinking regimens as well as a general awareness of cultural roots. Today's religious thought, political activities, literary development and the passage of ideas and knowledge did not just 'happen' in this age of social media. Without historical foundations, the terms "New Age"--or "New World Order"-- are only for the uninformed.
Social Studies,

Social Studies

I have active state certification in broad field Social Studies that includes history, pol sci, econ and geography. I am retired from 22 years as teacher and administrator k-12. In addition, my certifications includes math, reading specialist, early childhood, ESOL and gifted. My experience would lend testimony to study and reading skills necessary for student achievement in any discipline. One has to know the facts before dealing with inquiry and subsequent understanding regardless of the issue. How to pursue inquiry and further investigation likewise is a reflection of all the skills encompassed in the social sciences--from statistics of an issue to policies, practices and historical relevance.
World History

World History

I have taught World History and social sciences during my teaching career. I am a retired teacher/administrator with current state certification in History, Political Science, Social Sciences, Math, Reading Instruction, ESOL. Humanity has a trail through the centuries. Looking at past successes and failures--the lives and times of those much like us--is about understanding relationships, the most important being Cause and Effect! Nothing is certain…nor constant. Everything DOES change. Getting to understand traditions and beliefs of other cultures and times enables us to relate to them in an effort to seek a common ground from which to build our own "common ground" of present relationships. A study of World History naturally includes various systems of government, understanding the differences that help explain reliances on traditions that continue into today's World. A collective past that is understood allows us to further understand the dynamics of a changing world.

I have worked with both high school and elementary school teachers to develop individualized methodologies and strategies for students involved in the 'gate-keeping' courses of algebra and geometry. In mathematics, I introduced a Dual-Text program that led to increases in passage rates that would ultimately translate to increased graduation rates at the same school. I also functioned as the assistant principal of instruction and worked with teachers to plan and implement targeted mathematical presentations and testing for both classroom and individual learning.

Reading,

SAT Math,

SAT Math

I have program development experience in mathematics (elementary) and high school (algebra and science) leading to student gains in achievement. I have presented before state and local educational conferences concerning math programs that increased student achievement. A critical element in these programs is reading comprehension, mathematical processes and practices that develop student confidence through practice and often student verbal engagement. Math literacy, math practice and acclimation to the SAT testing environment are important components for a student to do well.

Test Preparation

ACT Math,

ACT Math

My involvement as a teacher and administrator over a 22-year period included ACT prep activities encompassing elementary grade level math and reading programs intended to boost student achievement as higher levels of math were encountered. I was also involved in successful dual-text reading instruction development at the 9th grade level. Major elements of the programs included individual student data as well as test-taking techniques applied in the classrooms I am particularly sensitive to the needs of early math learners and the development of testing techniques that can remove or lessen anxiety and recall. I am a retired educator with active state certification in math (6-12), reading (k-12), social studies (6-12) gifted and ESOL.
