I have been tutoring, mostly English, formally and informally since I was in high school. Ten years later I still derive satisfaction from helping students work through problems and become strong, self-sufficient learners. Creative writing as well as academic writing are passions I still hold despite a career focused in public health and nutrition. I especially enjoy working with international students and students with learning disabilities. I have worked with various age groups, from grade school levels k-12, university-aged students and adult learners and found each age group rewarding and fun to work with. Below is a list of my various tutoring experiences but I am also glad to give out a full resume, CV, and references!

I worked for four years as a peer writing tutor and coordinator at the Penn State University Writing Center and worked with students of many different skill levels on a variety of assignments. These ranged from essays, research papers, proposals, and final projects at all college and graduate levels.
I recently completed a Masters Thesis in the field of public health at Emory University and would be happy to help with improving and formatting theses or dissertations.
I also have experience with tutoring in areas of professional development and job searching. I have helped students to improve resumes, cover letters, personal statements and other documents for graduate programs and fellowships.
During my undergraduate years I also worked as an English tutor for engineering students so I am familiar with working with those who feel they are naturally bad at writing.
Much of my tutoring career has been working with children as well. I was an Assistant Teacher of English in an ESL summer camp for middle school students and have taught elementary level English for a small non-profit in Ghana, West Africa. I love working with second language learners! I have also worked with children with ADD/ADHD and dyslexia through these experiences and as a research assistant for the Child Brain Development Lab.
I have a health and social sciences background so I am willing to help with basic science, sociology and psychology assignments. I also have taken several statistics and biostatistics courses over the years and would love to grow my skills in tutoring in this area.

Rate is per hour per individual. Special discounts are often given for individuals depending on the terms of the contract.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have spent time teaching English to students with ADHD as a Teachers Assistant for a summer camp program. I also have experience working with children with ADD and ADHD in a research study of memory and behaviors. I interacted regularly with the children and helped them to complete study questionnaires and tasks. I consider myself a very patient teacher who is able to bring students back to focus by working with them over an extended period of time.
I worked as an assistant teacher of English for a summer ESL program for 6th-8th graders. I also have experience teaching English to third and fourth graders in Ghana, West Africa. I enjoy working with kids because they have the potential to become great learners if they are reached young.
I own a Macintosh computer and have used it exclusively for a variety of tasks for over 8 years. I understand how to use both older versions of the operating systems as well as newer versions. I have extensively used my Mac for creating and managing databases in Excel, compiling and organizing large reports and a masters thesis in Word, creating posters, flyers and presentations in Powerpoint, internet browsing, photo editing and scanning documents.
