I have been in the teaching profession for 37 years and have taught kindergarten through college. I have a bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in mathematics and a master's degree in English literature with a concentration in composition. I spent most of my career as a college professor, teaching at such schools as Georgia State, Mercer University, and in the Governor's Honors Summer Program at the College of Charleston. I have also taught at Lithia Springs High School with a PBTA (Performance-based teaching certificate) where I taught the advanced and accelerated classes in literature and composition. As a graduate student, I tutored in the GSU Writing Center and evaluated Regent's exams. At Mercer University, I taught SAT prep in addition to my English classes. I have successfully tutored students in preparing for the SSAT. I also spent eight years at a private academy in Atlanta where I was responsible for the language arts program for grades K-8. It was in this capacity that I became proficient in teaching phonics/reading. I have been retired for a year and am now returning to part-time teaching as a private tutor. Not only is Linda knowledgeable, she is very patient and approachable. My son enjoys working with her and looks forward to their sessions. She has made what was a potentially stressful situation dealing with our son's challenges with math and an upcoming standardized test very manageable. We are so glad to have found her.
Linda is very knowledgeable and works so well with a student's individual abilities and needs. She has been a great help!
Linda M. was a great tutor for my daughter who was preparing for the SAT. My daughter now feels much more confident in her ability to write a good essay and has incorporated the many tips in all the language arts portions of the test. Linda knows how to encourage and motivate the student to practice, learn and improve.
Linda M. is an excellent tutor. She is well informed, scholarly, has terrific motivational skills, and is always punctual with her appointments. She possesses all of the great teaching skills. She is exactly what we dreamed for in selecting a tutor for our daughter.
Ms. Linda has been a very enthusiastic tutor. She has been very patient with my daughter while prepping for her SAT test. I would certainly recommend her to anyone looking for an outstanding tutor.
"Exceptional," "Punctual". Her method and approach reenergized my son. I would strongly recommend Linda to any parent who seeks assistance for their son or daughter preparing for the SAT.
Excellent work made very easy for my daughter to understand and write essays. Always on time and easy to get along with.
Linda showed up promptly for my son's SAT tutoring session at our home. She got to work right away with him and so I left them alone for the two-hour session. My son said she was a great tutor and he felt like he learned a lot and would continue to learn a lot during the upcoming sessions. He was pleased and so I was VERY pleased!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I specialize in traditional grammar and mechanics.
I am proficient in all areas of literature--elementary, young adult, and college-level.
The new SAT math section covers arithmetic, algebra 1 and 2, geometry, and miscellaneous subjects, such as probability, data, and graph analysis. I have a minor in mathematics as well as a life-long love of math. I have prepared students for all areas of the SAT, including math.
I have taught both classes and individual students in preparing for the SAT. The best approach is a combination of coaching on the specific skills required by the SAT and coaching on "how" to take the test.
I have taught both classes and individual students in preparing for the Writing and Reading sections of the SAT. The ideal preparation includes a review of subject material relevant to the particular area of the SAT and "how" to take the test in a better, smarter, and faster way.
I have successfully prepared students for the SSAT. My latest student scored in the 90 percentile in every category.
