Growing up trilingual (fluent in German, Swiss German and English) and having lived in 3 different countries in my life, but primarily growing up in the U.S., has instilled in me a love, curiosity and passion for languages, people of different nationalities and of course teaching. As well as the internationally recognized University of Cambridge based CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults) certificate, I have 7 years experience teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) in Switzerland, New York City and now here in Atlanta where I currently teach a TOEFL course and Conversation course at Interactive College of Technology.
I have experience teaching private one on one lessons as well as group classes for general ESL skills (grammar, pronunciation, speaking, listening, reading, writing) as well as preparing students for the TOEFL exam so that they can achieve their necessary goal score in order to enter an American University. I find that one on one lessons are much more beneficial for the student since the student receives my complete attention and together, we have the ability and flexibility to tailor the lessons to his or her specific language goals. Daniela is a very nice young woman. She is always on time, she is very helpful, and we are accomplishing exactly what I had hoped. We finished the German biography of a famous artist that I wanted to read. Now we are working on some reviews of him that are a little more difficult, but we are still fulfilling my mission.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received the CELTA - Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults - in May 2008 from the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations after successfully passing the course at the Teaching House in New York City. In addition to having taught ESL in Switzerland in 2000, I have been teaching ESL since the Spring of 2008 in the U.S. I taught at Embassy CES and Zoni Language Center in New York City and currently I teach at College Prep Academy in Duluth, GA, and also at Alta Language Services in Atlanta, GA.
