I have been teaching music steadily for the past ten years. I am proficient on guitar, piano, and bass and have a passion for music theory, composition, and arranging. I really enjoy helping students find new ways to excel at their instruments, develop musicianship, and expand their awareness and experience of music.
I strive to make the learning process as painless as possible for my students, beginning with proper technique and selecting repertoire that reinforces the concepts we cover. As the student acquires more skill, I transition to a focus on performance and theory.
In my experience, everyone is different when it comes to learning music. Some people like to freely pursue whatever their interested in, and some prefer a more regimented approach. I try to strike a balance between conforming to a student's learning style, while at the same time gently pushing them to be as open as possible to things one might miss when becoming too focused, or not focused enough (as the case may be).
My ultimate goal with each student is to teach myself into obsolescence -so that every student acquires the skill to continue learning on their own. I typically charge $30 for a half hour lesson. I offer discounts if you come to me. If the distance I have to drive is considerable, I may need to charge more.
Our 7 year old has been taking lessons from Wes for the past year now and we could not be happier. Going from knowing nothing about the instrument when lessons first began to the point where our son is now, is nothing short of impressive. Wes is extremely professional and punctual and respects yours and your child's time. Lessons begin promptly and the child is actively engaged and learning the entire time. Highly recommend!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
