In my experience, a successful tutoring relationship is one that consists of trust and encouragement. It is my job to make students feel safe and confident as they face their academic challenges. I am very patient and understand how it feels to require extra help with a subject that seemingly appears so easy for everyone else.

I get equally excited when a student finally understands a concept or masters a skill. I want them to exceed and to reach their highest potential. I am committed to their success.

As an elementary educator, I consistently worked to achieve excellent student results. Because each student had a certain mix of traits, strengths and learning challenges, I had to apply differing proportions of the curriculum to the children. Each day, as a teacher, I always maintained structured lesson plans that met the state standards. During my elementary teaching experience, I taught Math, English/Spelling, Science, and Social-Studies. In order to give my students a greater understanding of the curriculum, I incorporated visuals into my daily lessons. For example, in math class, I did a lesson on shapes. When we studied circles, I bought an unsliced pizza and showed them that the pizza is a circle. Then when I cut the pizza, I showed them that the slices of pizza were shaped like triangles. In addition, after the completion of an author study, each child would write a letter to the author and share their likes or dislikes about the book; and/or questions about the characters in the book. We also sometimes created mini plays from the characters of the book. During my tenure as a teacher, I maintained positive relationships with parents, fellow teachers and office staff. Teaching has always been more than just a source of employment, it is my passion. My deepest focus is encouraging students so that they can be successful regardless of their circumstances.

I am very qualified to teach phonics. Currently, I am teaching and receiving training in the Barton System which is an Orton-Gillingham influenced simultaneously multi-sensory explicit and systematic phonics program. I have seen tremendous progress in my students' phonetic awareness since incorporating this system into their learning plan.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Tanya is Amazing!!! She is friendly, patient and professional. She's helped my student work through Dyslexia and continues to make improvements with him every session. I'd highly recommend her!

Intelligent, caring and fun!

I hesitated to hire a tutor because my son is so young. He is only 5, but he is one of the youngest in his kindergarten class and he needs a little boost when it comes to his writing and letter formation. Tanya is so patient with him, and she makes her lessons fun. I was worried a one hour session would be too much for my son, after a full day of school. On the contrary, he looks forward to his visits with Tanya and I can overheard him laughing and talking excitingly when he is with her. Tanya has taught my son little tricks to correct his letter formation that he can easily understand, and his writing has improved after just two visits. I would highly recommend Tanya!

So glad that we found Tanya

From the onset of our first encounter, Tanya has been professional and thoughtful. She met with our 8 year old and in one session identified academic goals and developed a clear tutoring plan. Over the course of only one month we have seen great improvement in our child's reading and confidence. Tanya works individually with our child and checks in with us frequently to keep us informed as to concerns and progress. Tanya has been timely and easy to communicate with. Perhaps most importantly, our child looks forward to her tutoring time with Tanya.
