Hello! My name is Lauren, and I am a certified, experienced teacher with 6 years of tutoring experience in high-school and collegiate chemistry, mathematics, physics, and biology.

While studying Biochemistry and Chemistry Education at West Virginia University, I was hired as a tutor at the university’s Academic Resource Center in 2019. From my time there as a tutor and Team Lead until my 2022 graduation, I was able to touch the lives of aspiring engineers, scientists, and medical doctors by helping them to learn the practical skills necessary to pass their coursework and exams, such as the MCAT. During this time, I not only developed experience, but also my love for tutoring. This led me to become a certified high-school Chemistry teacher in West Virginia. Since then, I’ve had experience teaching and tutoring primarily in West Virginia, but have tutored across the U.S.A., and have even taught internationally.

As I seek further training through obtaining my Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Emory University beginning in August, I hope to expand my tutoring base to students online, and to continue working for the benefit of high-school and college students across the United States, enabling them to reach their academic goals.

Currently, I am available to tutor the following subjects: High-school chemistry, general chemistry, organic chemistry, mathematics (pre-algebra through Calculus 1), introductory physics, and general biology. If you are interested in a tutoring session, I offer all students a 30-minute consultation where I will discuss with the student (and/or parents, if under the age of 18) the goals of the tutoring session, scheduling needs, and any other considerations I can make to enable an efficient, helpful, and stress-free tutoring experience. Extra considerations include creating/providing pre-made practice materials catered towards student need.

I would love to help you succeed in your academic journey. Please reach out for the start of a professional, enriching, and kind tutoring experience!

Debate

Debate

My interest with Debate began in high school when I joined the Speech and Debate team. There, I learned how to craft both speeches and debate cases where I was able to persuade a judge within the context of an argument, or inspire listeners within several competitions. With this love of Debate and public-speaking, I was not only able to qualify for a national Speech and Debate competition, but I was able to use my experience in a real-world scenario, where I was elected by my peers in a high-school honors program to write and deliver a speech to the WV Senate, arguing for increased funding for an educational program. My love for public-speaking has continued as a high-school teacher, where I have utilized these same skills to persuade and effectively deliver information to high-school students. By tutoring in Debate, it is my hope to teach others how to form a cohesive argument, as well as practical "performance" tips for debating confidently.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

Although I am a scientist-in-training as a Ph.D. student, essay-writing as always been a beloved subject of mine. Beginning in high-school, I exceled in AP Language and AP Literature, and have always loved writing technical essays, like rhetorical analysis, synthesis, and argumentative-style essays. As a scientist, I am also proficient in and love advising students on how to write research papers, ranging from STEM research (my specialty) to general research-writing tips that can be applied broadly across disciplines. Finally, as a Ph.D. applicant, I was admitted to all of the schools I applied to, which I attribute to my abilities developed in writing and revising personal statements. Whether it is high-school essay writing, research paper or poster tips, or helping you to write and revise your personal statements, I would love to help you with your essay-writing needs!
MCAT

MCAT

While I am currently a scientist-in-training, at one time I strongly considered medical school. As such, I have prepared for and taken the MCAT, with an acceptable score. Furthermore, I have several years of tutoring MCAT-related subjects, including biology, biochemistry, psychology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics. As such, I believe I am well-trained to tutor aspiring medical students related to the content and test-taking strategies necessary for the MCAT exam. Let me help you pass this hurdle required for medical school acceptance!
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

Hi! My name is Lauren, and although I am a scientist-in-training, I have a great deal of training in writing and revising personal statements in my Ph.D. applications. In support of the strength of these personal statements, I received admission to every Ph.D. program I applied for, which I credit to the strength of these statements. Furthermore, I am also a former Fulbright grantee, and within the application process for that award, I spent a great deal of time learning the principals of writing and revising personal statements, where I was able to apply these personal statements to my own statement. In short, I feel confident that I knowledgeable on how to write pristine personal statements, and am so excited to help others reach their goal of their dream school or program by teaching them how to write and revise their own personal statements!
Praxis

Praxis

Although I am currently a scientist-in-training, in preparation for attaining my teaching license prior to my employment as a teacher, I was required to take and pass Praxis subjects. While I am most familiar with the content-based Praxis subjects that I took (Chemistry, Physics, Biology), I believe that I have an education and test-taking strategies that will enable me to tutor you related to pedagogical methods, general subjects, and content-based Praxis exams especially related to STEM. Let me help you to overcome the hurdle of Praxis in order to prepare you for the next step of your teaching journey!
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

While I have several years of public-speaking experience while working as a high-school teacher, my interest with public-speaking began in high school, where I joined the Speech and Debate team. There, I learned how to craft both speeches and debate cases where I was able to persuade a judge within the context of an argument, or inspire listeners within several competitions. With this love of public-speaking, I was not only able to qualify for a national Speech and Debate competition, but I was able to use my experience in a real-world scenario, where I was elected by my peers in a high-school honors program to write and deliver a speech to the WV Senate. My love for public-speaking has continued as a high-school teacher, where I have utilized these same skills to persuade and effectively deliver information to high-school students. By tutoring in public-speaking, it is my hope to teach others how to write and revise speeches ranging from persuasive, to informative, to those for special occasions, as well as practical "performance" tips for delivering a speech confidently.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

Hi! As a scientist-in-training and a former high-school teacher and tutor with years of experience, I am excited to help students of all ages to write and revise their theses. My experience in thesis writing ranges from introductory high-school or collegiate-level writing, where students are first learning the basics of how to properly format and articulate their ideas within the context of a research paper, to real-world writing for ongoing research projects, where I have both written research papers on my own research topics as well as helped others revise their own backgrounds. Whatever your subject may be (though I am particularly well-suited to help those writing within a STEM background!) I promise to help you to create a comprehensive, in-depth research document that presents original research, an analysis, and conclusions on your chosen topic.
