I'm Jillian, an experienced educator with 16 years of practice in state public and international American private schools. My master's in Curriculum and Instruction is from Teachers College of Columbia University. I specialize in reading, math, science, social studies, and test prep for K-8 and secondary/collegiate writing. I also worked as a curriculum leader, so I enjoy helping parents who homeschool students.
My passion for teaching and learning continues as I experience different learner's needs. I always enjoy focusing on how to make a lesson interesting and meaningful to each student. Once a student is engaged and sees a pathway to success, they improve. I use different strategies and activities based on the subject, student age, and goals. Many connections exist between subjects in grades K-5, so I support basic skills in all lessons. I use music, hands-on learning, graphic organizers, pictures, and study skills to help elementary and middle school students. I also use discussion and oral practice to help students build their basic skills in writing.
Likewise, I provide accelerated and extra practice who students who need more rigor.
When I was preparing for graduate school, I had a 5% chance of being accepted. Hence, I had to demonstrate a mastery of craft and ideas. Thankfully, I was accepted. I know how much pressure these essays bring, so I enjoy coaching secondary and college students through the writing process. I enjoy teaching students to enjoy the process of communicating their ideas and research. I support students through the research, citation, and editing process by providing feedback on student work, before they submit or before an assessment.
Young learners deserve "fun" experiences that allow them to enjoy "learning how they learn." Writers should feel confident in their submissions. I hope to achieve this during my lessons. Hence, I provide an initial consultation and seek client feedback. I look forward to meeting each new client.
