Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I am a Christian and have been a follower of Christ all my life. I attend a non-denominational church in Durham, NC. I believe that having your own personal relationship with God is more important then just attending church services. I dedicate an hour of my day, every day to reading my bible and praying. The bible says that Jesus said we would do greater work than he did on the earth. I choose to allow myself to be a vessel that he can use to do his greater works.

College Counseling

In 2015 I received my master's degree in Academic Advising and Student Development from Kansas State University. While getting my master's I work as an assistant academic counselor in the athletic department. I helped my students which class and major selection, course planning, time management and organizational skills. Once I graduated I was offered an academic counselor position at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where I currently work.

Elementary (K-6th)

I received my degree in Elementary Education and have an active teaching license in the state of Colorado for grades K-6. I am familiar with elementary curriculum for all subject areas. I student taught in a 5th and 6th grade class in addition to substitute teaching for 4 months. I also taught 3rd grade for a year. I decided to go back to school and get my master's degree which is why I stopped teaching.

Elementary Math

I believe in making math fun. As an elementary teacher I enjoyed using manipulative and real life examples when helping student understand math. Most students have a fear of math but by making it fun and engaging students will enjoy learning it.

Reading

I believe reading is an essential educational skill that everyone needs not only to be successful in school but also in life. I think it is important to help students understand the fundamentals of reading like phonics, sight words, fluency, and vocabulary and then progressing to more complex skills such as reading comprehension, summarizing, setting, plot, characters, climax, moral, etc.

Study Skills

I believe helping students establish good study habits is essential to their academic success. Teaching study skills includes helping students with time management, organization, planning ahead, note taking, annotations, and memorization vs. synthesizing. I think it is important to help students understand how they learn best and use skills that are strong in to be successful in school. I recently received my master's in Academic Advising and now work as an Academic Counselor at UNC Chapel Hill.
