Hi! My name is Denise and I have over 7 years of tutoring experience. I am currently a contracted STEM educator for Gwinnett, Fulton and Dekalb County Schools, and a part time tutor with Tutor Doctor, Greater Atlanta area. I obtained my BS in both Exercise Physiology and Forensic Anthropology from East Carolina and went on to receive my MS in Cultural Anthropology from Mississippi State University (GO DAWGS!). I am no stranger to math of any level, and am extremely knowledgeable in biology and anatomy.
I love tutoring students in anatomy & physiology due to my passion for the biological sciences. As an autopsy technician, I can paint a picture of the body's inner workings and can demonstrate how to relate classroom material to real life situations. Tutoring allows me to show my students how simple the world of science and math can be when looked at from a different perspective. It also allows me to teach my students how to blend their understanding of science, math, and history in order to pass their courses and to progress into a wider realm of academia.
I currently tutor in all math subjects and have experience with all grades, up to higher education.
Experience in the gross anatomy lab, working as a college level anatomy and physiology instructor, and my work as an forensic autopsy technician all demonstrate my capabilities as a science tutor. Science is definitely a sweet spot, and I enjoy presenting a more visual perspective to my students. Visualizing biological and anthropological concepts tends to stick more than memorizing passages from a textbook for testing purposes.
