About Christina

Hi! I am a certified mathematics educator in Fulton County with seven years of extensive experience tutoring students in math, English, writing, and test prep (SAT, ACT, GRE, and TEAS). I graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Secondary Mathematics Education.

My teaching style is a bit different than most other tutors - instead of just showing students how to do a problem, I help students make connections on their own and engage them with the material using real world applications. Using this approach, educational research proves that students remember what they learned for longer periods, and they are on their way to mastering essential problem solving skills. I assign homework and set high expectations for all of my students.

I currently host small groups and private sessions out of my home and have seven years of experience tutoring grades 3 - adult up through Calculus III and GRE prep. Several of my students attend Georgia Tech, Emory, KSU, UGA, and UNG. I absolutely love to watch my students grow academically and gain confidence as they master course material. Tutoring is never considered work for me; it is simply my passion.

Throughout my years of tutoring, I have received nothing short of exemplary feedback and have turned C and B students into A students! I have helped students and adults significantly raise their test scores and enter prestigious universities and rigorous nursing and law programs. Students often turn to me to help write college application essays and prepare them for the new format of the SAT test. After achieving a perfect score on the math section of the SAT, it is my pleasure to share strategies and content mastery lessons with students. My students know that I am willing to work with them by reducing the rate for group sessions and offering online sessions for busy families!

** Please note all students come here to my home in Alpharetta located near Jones Bridge and Kimball Bridge Road (unless online sessions are requested). I cannot travel since students are booked back-to-back on the hour. I can travel to the student's home or meet at local libraries only if the student schedules a time where I do not have students tightly booked (usually summer only). I also have a strict 24-hour cancellation policy for the benefit of all involved. Students are fully charged for sessions not cancelled within 24 hours.

I am willing to group students (2-4 students) in order to offer a reduced rate for those in need. I strive to answer all messages within four hours.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

As a mathematics educator, I was required to complete several university courses and portfolios in regards to the Common Core state standards. I conduct annual research on these changing standards and constantly strive to update student textbooks as dictated by Common Core. As students complete lessons with me, I follow these standards in order to prepare for state exams and high stakes testing. Further, I have over six years of exposure tutoring Common Core to both struggling and excelling students.

Differential Equations

When I took this rigorous course at the university level, I achieved a course average of 98% and felt very confident with the material. I then worked with several students from the well-known research university Georgia Tech on their course content in differential equations. I have experience teaching this course for two years now to both engineering, mathematics, and computer science majors and have received nothing short of exemplary feedback. I use a modern textbook by Zill for course content along with Slader to help students working problems at home, and my students claim to enjoy this textbook and online resource.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have completed over 100 observation hours in the K-6th classroom, served as a teaching assistant for 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade, and have over six years of experience tutoring elementary students at my home business. I have expertise in building fundamental mathematics, science, and English skills during these early stages in a student's life and enjoy working with both struggling and excelling youngsters. Further, I have experience working with international Korean students at the K-6th level who struggle to read, write, and speak English.

Finite Math

I have a B.S. in Secondary Education Mathematics, which involved extensive study of linear programming, discrete math, probability, statistics, linear algebra, and math finance. I graduated summa cum laude and received the Walter J. Carpenter Mathematics award for my efforts. Further, I currently tutor students in finite math topics and use interactive software such as GeoGebra to help explain concepts, and I offer them real world explanations of finite math to increase retention.

Study Skills

As a 4.0 GPA student and an educator for both struggling and excelling students for over six years, I am able to put together appropriate study plans and pacing guides for all levels of students. Whether it be test anxiety, ADD, or other cognitive impairments, I have experience working with teachers, parents, and school counselors to formulate appropriate study plans and then enforce them. As an educator, I was also required to take several classes at the university level covering the subject of study skills, motivation, and proper resources.

TEAS

I currently have a B.S. in Secondary Education Mathematics, which involved an extensive study of mathematics and science (both of which appear on the TEAS). Further, I am a certified educator and frequently tutor the SAT, which contains an English and writing section. I have helped several students prepare for the TEAS and have increased their overall score anywhere from 15% - 40% by helping them work through released practice tests that I purchased.

Great Tutor

I searched two months for a great math teacher for my 5th grade student. I went through two companies before finding Wyzant to be the best choice. In two sessions Christina was able to raise my daughters grades. My daughter now is slowly gaining her confidence back and now able to communicate with her teachers better. Christine is very professional. She follows every session with a detailed explan
