My teaching style is a bit different than most other tutors - instead of just showing students how to do a problem, I walk students through the problem and let them make connections on their own. Even if this takes more time initially, students are proven to remember what they learned for longer periods, and they are on their way to mastering essential problem solving skills. During a typical lesson, I spend about 20 minutes lecturing and providing content related insight, and for the remaining time I watch as students put pencil to paper and work questions for themselves as I offer hints and scaffolding questions. This breaks up the monotony of a typical lesson and also allows the student to gain more understanding. I often assign homework and set high expectations for my students.

I am a 4.0 GPA university student with passion and certification in math and science education. I tutor out of my home with 28 students and have seven years of experience tutoring grades K-12 and college up through Calculus III and Differential Equations. Several of my students come from Georgia Tech, Emory, UGA, and UNG. I absolutely love to watch my students grow academically and gain confidence as they master course material. Tutoring is never considered work for me; it is simply my passion.

I have over six years of experience tutoring chemistry, biology, literature, and Spanish. My students often claim that I over-prepare them for tests in these subjects. I have tutored these subjects at the middle, high school, and college level. For Spanish, I enjoy teaching students reading, vocabulary, speaking, and culture knowledge in order to truly master the language. For chemistry and biology, I always offer students real world applications and make mathematical connections to my "math geniuses" in order to make these science concepts memorable and relevant.

Throughout my years of tutoring, I have received nothing short of exemplary feedback and have turned C and B students into A students! I thoroughly enjoy what I do and am majoring in Secondary Education Mathematics as a result. Students often turn to me to help write college application essays and prepare for the new format of the SAT test. Also, I am willing to work with students and parents on reducing the rate for group sessions and even offer online sessions for busy families!

I have a degree in Secondary Mathematics Education with over seven years of experience teaching all levels of math to both struggling and excelling students. I was the annual recipient of the Walter J. Carpenter Mathematics Award at my university and maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout my undergraduate mathematics studies. Additionally, I achieved a perfect score on the math portion of the SAT.

** Please note all students come here to my home in Alpharetta located near Jones Bridge and Kimball Bridge Road (unless online sessions are requested). The reason for this is because all materials are located here, and I cannot travel since students are booked back-to-back on the hour. I can travel to the student's home or meet at local libraries if the student schedules a time where I do not have students booked directly before and after to allow me time for travel (usually summer only). I also have a strict 24-hour cancellation policy. Students are fully charged for sessions not cancelled within 24 hours.

I am willing to group students into small groups (2-3) in order to offer a reduced rate for those in need. I strive to answer all messages within 12 hours at the very latest. Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

As a mathematics educator, I was required to complete several university courses and portfolios in regards to the Common Core state standards. I conduct annual research on these changing standards and constantly strive to update student textbooks as dictated by Common Core. As students complete lessons with me, I follow these standards in order to prepare for state exams and high stakes testing. Further, I have over six years of exposure tutoring Common Core to both struggling and excelling students.

Differential Equations

When I took this rigorous course at the university level, I achieved a course average of 98% and felt very confident with the material. I then worked with several students from the well-known research university Georgia Tech on their course content in differential equations. I have experience teaching this course for two years now to both engineering, mathematics, and computer science majors and have received nothing short of exemplary feedback. I use a modern textbook by Zill for course content along with Slader to help students working problems at home, and my students claim to enjoy this textbook and online resource.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have completed over 100 observation hours in the K-6th classroom, served as a teaching assistant for 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade, and have over six years of experience tutoring elementary students at my home business. I have expertise in building fundamental mathematics, science, and English skills during these early stages in a student's life and enjoy working with both struggling and excelling youngsters. Further, I have experience working with international Korean students at the K-6th level who struggle to read, write, and speak English.

Study Skills

As a 4.0 GPA student and an educator for both struggling and excelling students for over six years, I am able to put together appropriate study plans and pacing guides for all levels of students. Whether it be test anxiety, ADD, or other cognitive impairments, I have experience working with teachers, parents, and school counselors to formulate appropriate study plans and then enforce them. As an educator, I was also required to take several classes at the university level covering the subject of study skills, motivation, and proper resources.

Great Tutor — I searched two months for a great math teacher for my 5th grade student. I went through two companies before finding Wyzant to be the best choice. In two sessions Christina was able to raise my daughters grades. My daughter now is slowly gaining her confidence back and now able to communicate with her teachers better. Christine is very professional. She follows every session with a detailed explan ...
