About Allan

Allan is an Atlanta based based television engineer, instructor and pilot.
Allan’s aviation story began in the same way as thousands of others. As a kid, he and his dad went to the local airport just to watch the planes take off and land. On a good day he might get a ride with one of the local pilots.

He soloed and became a Private Pilot while he was in high school. He continued to learn and became a Commercial Pilot, Certified Flight Instructor and Instrument Instructor, Advanced Ground Instructor and a Multi-engine Airline Transport Pilot. Allan has thousands of hours instructing, flying charters and flying the 50 passenger Bombardier CRJ, Canadair Regional Jet for Midway Airlines.

In television, he has spent many years traveling with Television Remote Trucks and Satellite Uplink Trucks. He has been a staff engineer for Scripps Networks (HGTV, The Food Network,DIY & GAC) and for Turner Broadcasting Systems. Recently, he has had a career as a freelance television engineer.

Television has become a computer based industry. As a television engineer for HGTV, The Food Network and Turner Broadcasting Allan has stayed abreast of the latest in computers and communications.

Allan has been seriously dedicated to photography since the 1970s when a Nikon F2 made its way into his hands and almost did not escape again. His experience with cameras has grown much since that first Nikon over the years. Allan loves to teach and share. He believes you make yourself better by making those around you better. When he is not working as a freelance television engineer, he is generally spending his days off photographing and teaching.

Allan loves to teach. I honestly and truly believe that teaching is what I was born to do; maybe God really does plan our lives and if we follow that plan we will be very happy with our lives

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Photography

Allan W. is an Atlanta based based photographer, television engineer and instructor.

As a teenager I purchased my first Nikon camera, lenses and flash. I started taking photos for multi-projector slide shows. As a Television Engineer for many years, I have worked with lighting, picture composition, depth of field and many other parameters that affect video and film cameras. I have always had cameras and have continued to take still photographs through the years.

Allan is a FAA Certified Flight Instructor and Advanced Ground Instructor. He has instructed hundreds of student pilots. The FAA Instructor training and required bi-annual instructor rectification has given Allan the skill to teach many subjects, to include Search & Rescue, Television Production and Engineering and many classes in his home church.
