Currently, I teach ESOL part-time at a local university and operate an ESOL business, Clearly English. Also, I'm the mother of a seven-year-old and enjoy working with children.
I've trained and taught for Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, a comprehensive reading education provider, have experience as a literacy tutor and substitute teacher, and am TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certified. I've also earned a Master's degree in counseling and understand the developmental, cultural and psychological influences on learning.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with elementary-aged children as an instructor for Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, as a literacy volunteer, and as a substitute teacher in Cobb County and Palm Beach County, Florida.
I've been teaching ESOL to adults for almost ten years in higher education settings and specialize in pronunciation and accent.
I spent a year working as an instructor for Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, a specialized phonics-based reading program. I received intensive training and worked with hundreds of students. I've even adapted the program for my work with adult ESOL learners.
I received forty hours of training in phonics and phonemic awareness while employed with Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes. Lindamood-Bell is a worldwide company with that does exceptional work providing reading, comprehension, and math instruction to individuals and participates in school partnerships to provide training in their methodology.
Also, last year I was a literacy tutor for the Atlanta Jewish Coalition for Literacy at a local elementary school; this year I provided a seminar to their volunteers on strategies for teaching reading.
I can teach spelling because I've been trained in the Lindamood-Bell Method, which helps people learn to spell and read using a variety of methods. For example if a student has trouble visualizing sight words, I teach students to "write the word in the air" to help them retain the symbol imagery. Further, if they have trouble with auditory processing, I assist them by teaching the proper mouth position of sounds as a different resource for processing and retention.
I have been an ESOL instructor for about fifteen years, and I have taught TOEFL classes as part of my work. Also, I am very familiar with the needs of non-native English students and the material they will most likely need assistance with on the TOEFL.
As a professional ESOL instructor, teaching vocabulary is a part of my daily routine. I have numerous methods for teaching vocabulary, including memory techniques and an assortment of ways to use vocabulary in context; an assortment of methods allow students to better retain and apply what they've learned.
