I was a solo aftercare teacher for 4 years after high school working with children from Kindergarten - 5th grade. I led a middle school youth group for 2 years and I have also taught percussion at the local high school for the past 6 years. I hold my Bachelor's degree in Exceptional Student Education with Reading and ESOL endorsements (k-12) accompanied with autism credentials. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The autism credentials that I received after taking the classes in my bachelors degree include aspergers. I have worked with multiple students with aspergers one on one and in a group setting. Structure is one of the most important qualities to maintain while working with students with aspergers.
During my bachelor's program, I took the three autism classes needed to hold a certification in Autism. I taught 6 kindergarten - fifth grade students during my final internship in a self contained ASD classroom. I taught academics and social skills on a daily basis and also used sign language and assistive technology to communicate with some students.
