About Paul

I have been a successful tutor of Elementary, High School, and College Math and Science for years. I use real world applications to help the student understand the reasons behind the associated problems. The reason for this is simply because I was in real world Engineering and science in the Laser and Electronics fields for many years. For example: why is it called Blue-Ray and not Green or Red Ray? Ask me. Or, how do 3-D movies work? Ever draw a 3-D picture? Let me know and we will draw one.

My teaching career includes Seminole State College, Bishop Moore High School, Smith Prep, and Spark Enrichment Center, as well as, private tutoring in mentioned subjects, but also ACT and GED testing.

Questions: Where did they (or anyone else) get the quadratic formula? How high is the sky? Ask me, and together we will find these answers and a lot more with understanding. I could keep writing, but a live performance is always better. Let me know.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

The mathematics in the ACT is necessary for college level work. I was an instructor in the technical fields of electronics and introductory computer at Seminole State College. Additionally, I have a background in electronics, lasers, and practical mathematics coming from these fields. Recently, I tutored a student in ACT Math. He is now on his way to college.

Let's get started,

Algebra 1

Arithmetic, Algebra, and related mathematics are the stepping stones to other applications, such as, science, advanced mathematics, business, the medical field, etc. I offer an excellent foundation through tutoring as a supplement to your schoolwork, or directly if home schooled.I will show you a good method to apply to "word problems".

These are very important concepts, and because my experience covers these real world applications, which I present in a digestible manner. It makes learning interesting.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is the gate way to mathematical operations in calculus, statistics, business, the medical field, and as bananas say "a bunch more". Its comprehension is important. But, it can be enjoyable, if not fun. And, why not? Being in the technical fields for a long time, I was not only successful there, but also in the academic arenas from elementary to college levels.

So let's get started. I am ready, willing, and, able. The next step is yours. Contact WyzAnt to start.

Career Development

For almost 7 years I have been a volunteer consular at Christian HELP in Casselberry Florida. Christian HELP is a non-profit organization to help people get employment. They have been around for almost 20 years. I help clients who need a resume or a resume brought up to date. Many require help in the interview process including coaching, interview preparation, and seeking work when there is no ad, which accounts for more the 65% of job openings. Building self confidence is one of the keys to a successful job search. I have also given seminars directly in coaching in which many have benefited.

Discrete Math

Within the study of Mathematics, I have tutored Geometry, Algebra, Basic Arithmetic, and Calculus.

Along with those disciplines, I include tutoring/taught Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. My professional industrial experience covers electronics and laser, and within those field I have lectured and taught.

My degree is from SUNY, State University of New York, with a major in Physics Engineering. At CUNY, City University of New York, Queens College, I received credits for mathematics through Differential Equations and Linear Algebra.

Electrical Engineering

My degree is a BS Physics Engineering of which was utilized in the laser field with major laser companies for many years particularly in the electronic design of laser systems including extensive electronic work consisting of amplifiers, radio frequency equipment, digital controls, power supplies, and computer interfacing. Additional work with Seminole State College, as an instructor of all electronic engineering courses, where many students went on to the University of Central Florida for advanced EE degrees.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught elementary level studies in science and mathematics, which were accomplished at Spark Enrichment in Winter Springs Florida. Most student were home study, working through either church groups or directly from their parents. Other work was done through direct work in particular subjects that included those mentioned but also reading. The grade levels were from 2nd grade through high school.

Elementary Math

Getting and understanding elementary math is essential for any student as they begin their journey into the academic world. To secure this understanding there are things that must be included in the lessons.

The first is the obvious mechanical method of working with the problem. Secondly, and even more importantly, is the basic and intrinsic understanding of what is required within the problem solving. The third aspect is for the student to enjoy what is presented in such a way that the student wants more, and is eager to get it.

My experience brings this all together. I not only tutor, I teach, and with great results.

The sooner we start the better.

The GED opens up the door to your academic education, which in turn opens up your career. This test allows you yo pickup where you left off, no matter the reasons. It is the opportunity for a better job, growth in a present job, as well as, continuing your education either through certifications or formal degrees.

Don't think of the past, we only go in one direction, and that is forward. And the more you learn, the more you know. It is that simple.

I have had years of experiences in this area. The time to start is now, and then go forward.

Geometry is an excellent basis to begin mathematical applications, as well as, logic. It helps in word problems because it is a somewhat physical interpretation of mathematics.

Add to this, when I work in Geometry, I make the learning enjoyable and actually fun. Why not? For example, many times you will see the 3,4,5 right triangle. Recognizing it will speed computations, especially in word problems.

What separates a snap shot from a photograph? The answer is developing the technique and sharpening up the photographer's eye. This is teachable. The most important is seeing the object to be photographed in the correct light, whether being from action to portrait. What is to be shown.

I started picture taking when I was in grammar school and continued ever since. With my degree in Physics and many years work with lasers, I produced holograms, for example, for a particular project for the automotive industry. Taking team photographs for young baseball and football teams, then having a part-time business for weddings complete this part of my experience.

Some technical areas would included: a)which lens to use, b) lighting, c) how to capture the correct mood, d) background, digital or film.

Then there is video. What makes home movies so boring? The answer is simply tell a story that anyone would enjoy.

Is this fun? It sure is.

Prealgebra provides the basis of the mathematics subjects that follow. The key to understanding is practical application of the subject matter, as well as someone like myself that has the real world experience to make this application clear.

With many years experience in the technical and educational worlds, I present this experience to you now.

Public Speaking

As a previous Vice President of Marketing at Quantum Technology, I was called on many occasions to address groups of people, ranging from clients to students, to explain the company's product line, as well as, its applications. The environment would range from conference rooms (small and large) to auditoriums. I also gained similar public speaking experience at Seminole State College, where I was instrumental in bringing outside companies to the school to use their facilities, and as a volunteer at Christian HELP, a non-profit organization in central Florida. I am also familiar with audio and video techniques.

SAT Math

With successful experience in mathematics and science from elementary to university level, I would be honored to help with tutoring in Math. I have real world experience in the high tech fields (Lasers and Electronics), which makes practical applications clear.

I have many years experience in tutoring and formal teaching, as well as, real world applications in industry. I was the primary engineer and manager at laser and electronics companies, as well as, a teacher at Seminole State College, Smith Prep, Spark Enrichment, and private tutoring. I bring the “getting down to brass tacks” approach to all, which my students really enjoy. It gives them a secure sense of “what it is all about”.

Do not hesitate, let’s get started.

Please contact me through WyzAnt so we may start quickly.

Study Skills

Study skills is the first step in learning. While teaching at Seminole State College, one of my responsibilities was educating vocational rehab students from high school level to retirement. One thing I offered is not only the work material, but also, the method to learn a subject. One important way was simply to discuss it with other including other students, as well as, the teacher.

Another approach is to combine, when possible, a story that helps understanding a subject. Story telling is an ancient and effective way of good communication. This was very helpful with elementary and high school students.

Then of course there is another excellent thing to do. Write it down. When something is expressed as a idea alone, it has a tendency of just "floating", and never coming in for a landing.

Knowledgable, sense of humor, and patient with my child

Paul helped my daughter prepare for the SAT. She appeared to love the session and is looking forward to the next session. This is the first time I have seen her smile while being tutored. Paul was extremely patient with her and he always found a way to encourage her.
