About Nathan

I specialize in languages and standardized test tutoring. Whether we are working on Spanish, French, English, or SAT/ACT, my goal is the same: to help my students succeed. Because I customize lessons to each of my students' needs to help them realize their potential, my students consistently see tangible improvements. An improvement of at least one or two letter grades (sometimes more) is typical for my students enrolled in language courses.

Over the past ten years I have made multiple trips to both Spanish and French speaking countries and completed a dual Foreign Language degree (French and Spanish) at West Virginia University, with an emphasis in grammar and pronunciation. I also provide comprehensive English and ESL tutoring. I now have multiple years of experience working as an ESL Teacher and tutor in various settings, providing one-on-one instruction and English support to international students, helping them improve their grades as well as their SAT and TOEFL scores.

Whatever your current language level or standardized test score, I can help you improve, reach goals, and communicate more effectively. Though I often work with students who are currently enrolled in language courses, I am willing to provide material and work with all students to meet their particular needs. I am currently available primarily evenings and weekends. I also make myself available for online tutoring as needed. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you succeed.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Reading

I have personally had near-perfect results on the ACT Reading Test. I've also been working with students in various settings over the past ten years to help them improve their own ACT scores.

ADHD

ADHD is a part of my own journey. I've worked a great deal to understand and manage it in my own life. I've also worked with a number of students and clients with ADHD while studying it in depth as a part of my MA in Counseling.

Career Development

I've been mentoring and guiding individuals in the Career Development process for years as part of my work as a teacher and tutor. More recently, my MA in Counseling degree program has provided me with courses in Career Counseling, Assessments, and Lifestyle Development, as well as the opportunity to counsel clients on issues of career development as a part of my graduate counseling internship.

Additionally, much of my work as a teacher, tutor, and counselor has included mentoring and guiding students in the college selection and application process.

Both my undergraduate and graduate degrees have required a tremendous amount of time studying and analyzing literature. In addition to the countless hours I've personally spent pouring over literature, I've been working with students in various settings over the past ten years to help them succeed in Literature courses (in Spanish as well as English).
