I have worked in the entertainment, media, and writing fields both professionally and academically for 10 years while working towards an undergraduate and master’s degree.
Having attended college for both degrees as well as subsequently working for various entertainment companies, I have been exposed to a number of aspects current to the film and television industry. This education, along with a life-long passion for film, television and new media has left me with an expansive knowledge of new technologies, rising box office trends, and group efforts to bring a cinematic vision to fruition.
I have helped in production, web and video design for various projects, assisted in set design for the introduction of a magazine show and held various positions in production offices and on sets. Most recently I set out on a journey for my PhD in Media Psychology. This degree, along with the research I am conducting, is allowing me the opportunity to examine how we interact with the media we consume. My teaching style is that of a hands on approach. I believe that students learn by doing and experiencing the topic they are studying first hand. The idea of storytelling moves past what we see on screen and starts with what we experience.
I have a deep appreciation for past, present, and the future outlook of where the film industry has been and will travel to. I believe my understanding, knowledge, and hunger for this business will allow me to help cultivate future filmmakers, artists and visual storytellers. My background is in writing and film production and I hope to have the opportunity to help foster creativity in the writing and technical skills of future writers and filmmakers. I have worked both academically and professionally in the field of film and television. Throughout my career I have worn many hats that led me to understand the various nuances, both on a creative and business level, within the filmmaking industry. I have successfully started and conducted writing groups with working and rising professionals both in Los Angeles and Savannah. I am currently working toward a PhD in Media Psychology, which allows me to use my previous degrees in Film and Television to better understand how and why we consume certain types of media. I believe in the idea of creativity fostering creativity and look forward to sharing my knowledge and passion of this industry with future professionals.
I started out my career in television working as a post-production assistant for a small production company. Since then I have gone on to produce several new media projects, short films, short documentaries and have a video production studio at home. My background in video and editing has allowed me to work with various video formats, editing platforms, and styles to achieve the best results for the project I am currently working on. I have a bachelor's degree in Film and Video and a Master's Degree in Film and Television.
My focus while in school was on the writing side of the filmmaking industry. I have studied the art of of storytelling, narrative writing, and the idea that story is a part of everything we do. I have had the privilege of working with professional editors to help educate myself on proper research formatting as well as formatting for fiction material. Writing is something I love to do, love to teach, and I am always looking into new trends and rules for various types of writing styles.
