About Allison

Hello! I am a graduate from the University of South Florida with a degree in Chemistry (emphasis in Biomedical Sciences). I have had extensive course work in all facets of science, such as Organic Chemistry, Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology, Biology, General Chemistry. These subjects are higher level sciences but do not let that fool you! I am very comfortable tutoring younger students. Since 2007 I have worked with after school tutoring programs.

I am currently a virtual school teacher. I have worked as a high school Earth Science Teacher for the last 4 school years. Prior to my current teaching position, I held a job working as a Program Coordinator for a tutoring company. I have also tutored for the same company at all grade levels (usually kindergarten through 8th grade) with significant focus on Reading, Science, and Math. In order to work for this company and as a Teacher, I was required to be fingerprinted by the school board and background checked.

My philosophy when it come to education is that any subject can come to life if expressed appropriately. It is important to relate subjects to student interest. It is also extremely important to make lessons memorable by using songs, games, or pictures. This may sound silly, but I promise, it works for any age! Seeing students excited about their AHA! moments is what I love. Those are the moments that inspire me to continue learning and teaching myself!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently a teacher with the Polk County School Board. I have worked as a high school Earth Science Teacher for the last 3 school years. Prior to my current teaching position, I held a job working as a Program Coordinator for a tutoring company. I have also tutored for the same company at all grade levels (usually kindergarten through 8th grade) with significant focus on Reading, Science, and Math.

Microsoft Outlook

I have used Microsoft Outlook for the last 3 years as a teacher. This is our primary source of communication as well as a community calendar. I have also incorporated additional calendars that are specific to particular departments, such as, a laboratory calendar for using one of our many labs on campus.

Microsoft Publisher

I have designed many advertisements, brochures and even my own wedding invitations. My experience with Microsoft Publisher grows weekly as it is a common program for me to incorporate into my career and hobbies. I have also started using the program from my website.
