About Jaron

Hello, my name is Jaron and unlike many other tutors, I am a current student myself. I am a senior at Florida Polytechnic University where I am studying Mechanical Engineering and I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout all of high school and college. Because I am a student myself I understand what it feels like to struggle in certain topics along with trying to keep up with course work for 4-7 classes. I also know that receiving some help in challenging subjects can significantly improve your performance in those courses and leave you with a sense of accomplishment.

I specialize in tutoring math and science especially with higher level mathematics including Calculus. Math has always been my strongest subject and in school I took every math course that was offered and received high A's in all of them. In fact I took so many math courses that by my senior year there weren't any math courses left for me to take. I know that math is a challenging subject for many students and that it can be difficult to learn at first, but I strongly believe that any student can do well in math with enough practice. Throughout my education I have often found that students struggle in math not because it is too difficult for them to understand, but that it is explained in a confusing way that does not make sense to that student. As a math tutor, it is my goal to explain math in an easy to understand way in order to help students go from struggling in math to doing well in it and even enjoying it. Like puzzles, math problems can be very frustrating when you don't even know how to begin, but they can become fun once you realize how to approach them.

My approach to tutoring mathematics is to take a seemingly complex problem and break it down into simpler parts that can be easily solved by the student. The problems that students tend to struggle with the most usually just end up being a combination of simpler problems that they have done earlier, and I would like to help students see these connections in order to simplify and solve problems by themselves.

In addition to mathematics, I also tutor science especially those that have a strong basis in math such as chemistry and physics. When tutoring science, I like to explain topics in ways that make sense to the student. Throughout my schooling I have often seen teachers, especially in science, teach only one way to view a problem when there are in fact many ways to view the same concept. I believe that students should be exposed to multiple views that can be taken when approaching scientific questions and use the method that works the best for them. In addition to viewing problems in different ways, I also believe that it is helpful for students to know where certain equations or concepts come from and why they work rather than just memorizing them. Although this may seem like more work, it can make problems easier to understand and it can help out significantly in the long run.

As a student, I know how important it is to manage time and I try to be as quick and as thorough as possible. If you already understand a topic completely, I am not going to waste time making you do busy work and I will move on to the next topic. Rather than continuing to practice many easy problems, I believe that it is better to work on the hardest problems available. This may be more challenging at first, but if you can consistently answer difficult questions correctly during tutoring, then you should have no problem doing well in the class.

As both a student and a tutor I know how great it feels to finally understand a topic that has troubled you for some time and I hope to help many students achieve that feeling. Please let me know if I can be of any help to you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have a very strong basis in algebra 1 and have been tutoring in it for several years. I also have a great amount of experience tutoring in algebra 2, geometry, precalculus, calculus, physics, and chemistry which all greatly rely on concepts from algebra 1.

Algebra 2

I took Algebra 2 online in 9th grade and I got a high A in it along with completing it much quicker than most students. I have also been tutoring in Algebra 2 and subjects dependent upon Algebra 2 for several years and nearly all of my students have given me very positive reviews.

Calculus

I took AP Calculus BC online when I was in 11th grade without taking AP Calculus AB first and I got a 5 on the AP exam. Many people think of calculus as being a very difficult math class, but it is mostly just new concepts that require students to think differently than in most of their previous math classes. I have tutored many different people in Calculus and all of my students have rated me positively .

Mechanical Engineering

I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering and have completed nearly all engineering courses required to graduate. I have received A's in all of my courses and have continuously excelled in all subjects pertaining to Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, I have assisted other students with Mechanical Engineering courses including Statics, Materials Science, and Thermodynamics.

Precalculus

I took precalculus online over the summer between my Sophomore and Junior years of high school so I could take AP Calculus in my Junior year. I finished precalculus very quickly and got a high A in the class. My instructor told me that I was one of the quickest students he ever had finish the class with such a high grade.

Exceptionally Smart

Our daughter has consistantly had an A in this class. Jaron deserves much credit as he explains the concepts very well. He is exceptionally smart and knows his subject matter.
