About Katie

I have been tutoring math since I was in 10th grade. I have worked with every type of child, from special education to gifted & talented. I have taught math, from 6th grade through pre-calc in Colorado high schools. I have also taught college Geology at Florida International University and Arapahoe Community College. I am currently teaching the GRE and GMAT at the university of South Florida.

Most of my students are high school algebra or geometry. Many good students find that their grade will drop when they enter geometry. However, with a little bit of help, they pull through and their grades go back up during algebra 2. I can help smooth out this transition, and keep grades up across the board!

I have a background in Math, Geology, and computers.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

This is a required course for all high school students. Most freshman are enrolled in this class. It involves solving for variables, creating equations and graphing. I have taught this subject at two schools.

I have been heavily involved in Church all my life. I have had a daily bible reading routine for 15 years now and I have read through the Bible 4 times. I have lead Sunday school for both children and Adults. I was in charge of my high school bible study, and I have lead evening Bible studies.

Geometry

This is a required course for all high school students. Most 10th graders are enrolled in this class. It involves shapes, area, and volume. Many students find it to be a difficult topic since they have not yet developed the ability to visualize objects in 3D. It is not uncommon for student's grade to go down from Algebra I, but then in Algebra II there grade may go back up. I have taught this subject at Mountain Vista High School, both during the year and in summer school. It is my most tutored subject.
